too late for Vermont foliage?

Will it be too late to enjoy the Vermont foliage around October 21st? If so, are there any other regions(New Hampshire etc. . . that would be better)? Thanks!

Jeanine-
I'm afraid you'll be too late for foliage in Vermont. In fact, southern Vermont is at it's peak right now and with the weather system moving through tonight & tomorrow (rain/snow/wind), a lot of leaves will probably drop off. Your best bet for seeing foliage around that time would be to head south--Cape Cod and Newport RI should be nice. I was in Fairfield County CT last year right around the same time you are inquiring about and remember it being very beautiful with color. So, if you had your hopes set on VT, I'm sorry to disappoint you!

I have to respectfully disagree. I just got back from a week of foliage touring in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Quebec. Southern New Hampshire and SOuthern Vermont should still be good then. Northern Vermont is hitting peak this week. Western Massachusetts (the Berkshires) will almost certainly be excellent. I would stay away from the Cape and Newport - generally the closer you get to the water the better the foliage is. GO to the mountains and hills.

Well, looks like Charles and I disagree! My mother lives in Southern VT and reports peak conditions, and grandparents in northern VT report past peak conditions. I guess it's a relative though--one person's peak may be one person's past! Charles--I hope you had a great time on your trip!
Jeanine--check out www.1-800-Vermont.com
They have daily foliage reports. This will give you a good idea as to what to expect!

Try the lower Hudson Valley in NY or the Delaware Water Gap area at the NJ-PA border. Both should be peaking around that time. It will be took late for Vermont.

Jeanine,
Even though the foliage is wonderful now, two weeks does make a big difference.
I have live in Vermont for 30 yrs. now, and usually by the 3rd week of October, things are getting pretty thin up here.
A few yrs ago,(?5or 6) we had a long, late foliage with beautiful colors through the 23rd of the month.
BUT, that is very rare.
Try again next year.
nancy
