to do questions for Cheyenne and Salt Lake City

Hello. This is my first time, so giving it a shot. :o)

I'm planning a road trip from Sacramento to Cheyenne, Wyoming in July - more specifically July 14th through the 18th. I'm thinking of stopping in Salt Lake City and spending the night there then pushing on to Cheyenne, spending two days (the 15th and 16th) then driving back to Salt Lake City on the 17th staying overnight and making Sacramento by evening on the 18th.

Is there anything to do in Salt Lake City? Cheyenne? I need at least a day in Cheyenne - but other than that my whole trip is open to fun. I like to hike, see national parks, be in the urban center - the pulse of the city so to speak.. I don't have any firm plans other than making Cheyenne so if there's a better route to go, please suggest it..

Hopefully I hear back from y'all. Have a good one!

I-80 is the fastest route, but not the most scenic. Infact, the Wyoming part of this trip is pretty boring!

On the way back I would drop down to Denver and come back on I-70. This has to be the most scenic interstate driving though the mountains. After you hit Utah, get off at Cisco and take Hwy 128 into Moab, Utah. If you want hiking then try Arches National Park. Delicate Arch hike is 3 miles round trip but Delicate Arch is well worth the time and effort.

After Moab take Hwy 191 north back to I-70 and make sure it's still daylight when you drive from Green River, Utah though the San Rafael Swell area to Fremont Junction! It's to scenic to drive it at night!!

Hwy 50 though Nevada is a little slower driving but IMHO is more scenic and a lot of fun. You drive near Great Basin National Park, NV, Sand Mountain, there are petroglyphs and this was the route of the pony express riders.

Utahtea - thank you for the hints.. I talked with my friend (who convinced ME to go along for the ride ha) and now she wants to try tent camping - I haven't found anything really on the internet and being in CA there aren't any Utah / Wyoming travel guides that I liked at the local bookstore..

I saw another post you put up about tent camping and i'm going to be checking out the websites you provided (ivillage, and rv.net) but any suggestions?

and thank you thank you again for your hints - I do want to do some hiking and I'll definitely check out Arches National Park!

We been camping for the last 28 years so I know where the campgrounds are. Do you want private campgrounds or do you want campgrounds in national forest, parks, BLM land, etc? If you could give me a ball park area, I could probably come up with something nearby.

Here are some websites to check:

If you want to purchase a book of campgrounds then I'd recommend Trailer Life CAmpgrounds, RV parks & Service Directory. Make sure you get a current year. You migh try your local library for a copy to take with you.
