TKTS for Sat. pm
 

I have looked at the TKTS site for last weeks offerings, but I realize that Sat. nite is probably different from weekdays. I am hoping for 42nd Street, Fiddler on the Roof, Chicago, or Wonderful Town. Reasonable expectation? We are planning to meet at the booth at 2pm. Need 5 tickets, so don't want to wait until late afternoon.

You should have no problem getting tickets for Wonderful Town or Fiddler on the Roof. The other two are in the "possible" category.

They've all been running for awhile, so you can probably get 5 tickets, although maybe not together.

You'll pay a little more than the TKTS prices, but you won't have to wait in line.
Just print out a copy of the offers from any of the above websites and take them directly to the box office when you get to the city.

I got tickets at TKTS for Wonderful Town on a Saturday night---they were front row seats which was a little disconcerting as it seemed like the dancers were going to fly into my lap. Brooke Shileds has taken over Donna Murphy's role. I liked 42nd Street a lot better than Wonderful Town.

Howard, I will go double check those sites--there were lots of discounts last month, but many have expired now. Also, anyone planning to use TKTS can go to their website and purchase a certificate online using a credit card. It can be given as a gift, or used yourself at the TKTS booth, same as cash!

The only advantage there is in purchasing a certificate on line for TKTS is that you can charge it (which you can't do otherwise). You still have to wait in the line to get tickets.
Of the shows you mentioned, only A Wonderful Town has a discount offer on the previously mentioned websites. I'm surprised about Fiddler, as it's not doing that well.

Watch for a boost in sales for Fiddler--Harvey Firestein coming in!

If Wonderful Town or Fiddler are the only choices, which one would you pick for a mom and 4 college students?

That's a tough call. I think they'd enjoy either one equally.

Gosh, I don't know...I must be the only person who actually liked Fiddler (with Alfred Molina). The theater was packed so there were others who went but of course, that doesn't mean they liked it.

Also don't wait in Times Square, go downtown to the South St. Seaport. The TKTS office is on the back side of the Prudential buidling on Water and Fulton St. The line there is much shorter and the office opens I think at 10am, so you can get your tickets and then head up to chinatown for a dim sum lunch.

Fiddler is the longest, at 3 hours plus intermission. It is not slow and boring I hope! Reaction seems to be ho-hum. Is that just because it is old fashioned and not sexy? I loved the movie way back when!

To me Fiddler is a classic. I just saw The King and I with Sandy Duncan at the Wang Theater in Boston - I also saw it many years ago with Yul Brenner in NYC. I just happen to enjoy plays such as these for a change of pace. I wouldn't call Fiddler slow moving - there is a story to tell which takes time.

Chicago is also very good - a more glizty type of production.
