TKTS
Is there still a website which lists what shows have been available lately through TKTS? My daughter and her boyfriend will be visiting NYC Jan. 12-16 and any info about "probably tickets" will be welcome!

Try this out- http://www.tdf.org/tkts/#

HarryR has given you the right information.
As you peruse the shows that were available at TKTS last week, keep in mind that many of them were NOT available for discount on Friday and Saturday. Your daughter will have a much greater choice for Thursday and Sunday performances. Another option is for her to check for discounts on Playbill.com and BroadwayBox.com. She'll pay about $10-15 more per ticket than at TKTS, but she can go right to the box office when she gets to city and avoid having to wait in the TKTS line. |
HowardR - Thanks for listing those other sites. I wasn't aware that they offered prices so close to those at TKTS. I will be checking them out for myself as we many times come into the city for matinee performances on either Wed. or Sunday.

Harry, it's especially good to know on Wednesday, when the line at TKTS is so long for the matinee performance.
Many a time, we've stopped to check out the line at TKTS. If it was not too long and a show we wanted to see was there, we'd wait. If the line was long (especially on a cold winter day), we'd take a copy of our discount offer and go to the box office. As I said, the difference in price is usually around $10-15 more. But, and I repeat a comment, it's certainly worth it to avoid a wait in line (especially on that cold winter day). Other times, we decided in advance to use a discount offer and I'd go to the box office. And, very often, we've gotten excellent seats even though we were using the discount offer. |
Howard - I've added both sites to my favorites for future use. It would seem entirley likely that you may get somewhat better seats via this method vs TKTS. I believe they would already have reserved the least appealing seats for the TKTS booth. How long before the show can you get the tickets? Is it better to get it out of the way early?
Any good sites for some better hotel rates in NYC or is that too much to wish for. Since we come in from CT we usually just take the train in, see a show have dinner and return to CT, but would love to stay over if the rates are right. |
Harry, getting tickets with the discount offers is easy. Just run off a copy of the offer and take it to the theater any time. Obviously, the earlier you do it, the better the seats. You can also use the discount offer on line or by phone, but then you have pay the service fee, which I hate to do on principle. besides the added cost factor. Of course, if you are not in the city regularly, you have to do it by phone or on line; but, then, of course, the saving is not nearly as good.
Sorry, I can't help you with the hotel thing. |
Harry, the very best option for a great deal on a hotel for 2 people in NYC is bidding on Priceline. People wind up staying in 4* midtown hotels like the NY Hilton, the Hilton TS, Marriott Marquis, the Hyatt, often for $100-130/night. As prices have gone up, I've noticed some wins at the $150 mark too. Priceline in NYC seems to work best for short stays. If you're unfamiliar with the whole bidding thing, read up on biddingfortravel or betterbidding. Both sites will help you construct a bid.
If bidding doesn't suit you, look on Travelzoo.com for specials. They appear 1-3 months of the stay but sell out quickly. Quikbook is a good site for prices. I've also seen some "deals" by using sidestep.com and kayak.com, both of which scan lots of other sites for best prices. |
mclaurie - Thanks for the additional help. Guess I will have to review those sites about bidding since I've never tried it myself. I've made note of the other sites you mentioned as well since they may be helpful.

Just want to add my 2 cents. I followed the advise about getting the discount code from www.broadwaybox.com then using the code at www.broadwayoffers.com when purchasing tickets for Dirty Rotten Scoundrel. With the disc. they were $68.75, without disc. they were rather 111.25 suggested price. Big difference! I will definitely always check with them first.
Now, if I could just figure out how to get disc. tickets for Jersey Boys!! |
FYI, additional Broadway and Off-broadway show discounts available at
http://www.seasonofsavings.com I think this is only for January and February, but it has some shows that I don't think are available on playbill.com or theatremania.com |
