Most people reading your heading would think you are a waiter wanting people to tip you. Post again with your destination in your title.

Do what we do. Ask the locals, such as the front desk at your hotel, people in stores, etc. We've found they will give you great places that are not found in any tour book and that you'd never find yourself.

Tip you? I don't even know you.

OK, I can tell you all about cow tipping. First you find a cow . . .

In defense of Diane, I do not believe she was trying to be rude. She was simply trying to assist you in getting better responses. Your heading is not going to attract as many responses unless you state in your heading something like "Leaving for Reno, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Monterey soon. Help-Last minute tips Please! People are all to often too rude on these boards and for what precise reason??

The aquarium in Monterey is a must, but we made the mistake of going mid-day and it was WAY too crowded. Get there the minute it opens to avoid the crowds. It was an incredible place!

Here's some stuff for Tahoe:

If it's still operating: Raft down the Truckee River. It's really fun on a warm day (should still be nice in sept). Stop along the way and picnic. There are some areas that you can stop.

Take the Tram up to High Camp in Squaw Valley. There is a pool and giant jacuzzi at the top as well as a year round ice rink for skating. Also has a large bar . Lots of lounge chairs around the pool and spa.

Take a ride on the Meteor. The high speed ferry that leaves from the Marina at South Shore and lands in Tahoe City. Second year of operation.

Take the new gondola from near the Embassy Suite in South shore up to the viewing area. Can picnic up there as there are tables and chairs/benches. Then take it to the top and hike around. Great views.

Visit the Historic Tallac site in Camp Richardson. More info: http://www.r5.fs.fed.us/heritage/047.HTM

Visit Sugar Pine and take a tour of the Mansion.
Tour the Thunderbird Lodge on the Nevada side.

Places to eat that are terrific:

Cafe Fiore
Evans
Wet Woody (drink) at Riva Grill in the Marina area.

Have fun!!!

To the fake LGL: The original post had fallen down into the third group of 50, as I recall, without any response, and I was not only giving good advice, I was doing the original poster the favor of bringing him/her up to the top.
