Tips for Week Long Trip to Ohio
 

Hi! I'm trying to plan a romantic getaway in Ohio and would really appreciate it if anyone here could give advice on places to stay and sensible ways to save money while there. I already have some affordable flights scoped out, but my fear is that the cost of spending a week at a place like Hocking Hills (our original choice) would push the trip over our low-income budget. Adding to my concern is that, since our trip would need to be in early or middle December, a lot of places will probably be closed for winter.
Our hope was to stay in a cozy little cabin but we're definitely willing to be flexible and make compromises in order to make this happen. In short, we're looking for a place where two people on a budget could afford to stay for a week (or at least a few days!) during December. Any and all advice you guys have will be huuuugely appreciated, trust me!

Depending on where you are coming from you could consider taking a train to one of several stops in Ohio. amtrak,com

I traveled to Ohio for work for a number of years. My favorite places/sites were:

Cleveland Museum of Art and Severance Hall. Another person might like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Toledo Museum of Art is fabulous and FREE!

The Amish country more or less near Wooster is beautiful.

Columbus has a good small art museum and a nice outdoor/pioneer/farm museum.

But you should really consider Washington, D.C. Hotels are expensive during the week, less so on weekends, it is usually cheaper than Ohio to fly to, there are lots of good places to eat in every price range, and ALL the best sites are FREE because we Americans already own them!
