I love the picture Kal!!
Are you the person standing in the back or sitting in the front?
A new question
On our way from the airport to the Lihu'e Marriott where can we shop for snack foods, beer, wine, water etc to stock our fridge?
Thanks to everyone who has answered

Rain: Kauai doesn't usually get much rain until at least the end of October. When that seasonal rain starts, it is island-wide.

Sunset cruise: how are your sea-legs? The water will be getting rough by then.

Kayaking: river kayaking doesn't need to be strenuous. Just go as far and long as you like. Most outfitters charge a minimum of 1/2 day though.

Dinner: I like the Hukilau Lanai suggestion. Nice setting, good food, fair service. 15 minutes max from Marriott. Also suggest Mediterranean Gourmet (I'll post review shortly).

Brunch: no great suggestions.

Alohaaa hope,

When you come out of the airport go straight instead of turning left to go to the Marriott.

This will take you ro the main drag "Kuhio Hwy" or Hwy 56.

Turn right at the light by Hilo Hatties and you'll see a Walmart on your right.
Good place for munchies, water etc.

You could go down to Anchor Cove Mall in Nawiliwili but the convenience store there may charge you a bit more.

You could check in first then go up Nawiliwili Rd to the Kmart at Kukui Grove Shopping Ctr too.

As for the Med Gourmet, not worth the trip out unless you're working it in with some other no'shore activity IMHO.

Great setting but food and service lacking when we were there but it was Jan '07.
How can you get a tough piece of fish??
Mrs Kal loved her seafood paella and the pupus were good and the company was excellent!

Good babaganush on the no'shore of Kauai? <i>Who knew</i>?:-O

Thanks Kal!
Is this Walmart a &quot;Super&quot; Walmart that sells groceries too?
Where on the island can you buy beer and wine?
We will be looking to buy beer, wine, water, soda, lunch meats and rolls, snacks - things like that. I believe that our room has an empty refrigerator so we will utilize that. Mr. Hopefully is not a lunch person, so if I can get lunch fixings for the room we will both be happier
Thanks again for all the help

We love Kauai and go there almost every year..except this year thanks to ATA filing bankruptcy three days before our departure...anyhow....here are my comments:

If you are staying at the Kauai Marriott Resort &amp; Beach Club in Lihue then I suggest dinner at Duke's at least one night. It is right at the Marriott.

I would suggest hiking to Maha'ulepu beach (The 1.5 mile, unpaved road to the beach is filled with potholes. The beach is well worth the effort and not very strenuous)

Our favorite company to take a heli tour with is Inter Island. They have a waterfall tour that is to die for (http://www.interislandhelicopters.co...sadventure.htm).

We did a kayak tour with Outfitters
Kauai that was fun but a bit of a challenge depending on the winds (http://www.outfitterskauai.com/hidden.html).

For a sunset cruise, I suggest Kauai Sea Tours. We've been out with the many times and enjoy the buffet style dinner and mai tais to go with it(http://kauaiseatours.com/tour3.html).

I have heard and not yet experienced the Beach House Restaurant for dinner (http://www.the-beach-house.com/).

Have a great time! Happy Anniversary!

I'm going to Mediterraneal Gourmet on Saturday for my birthday and will post a review on my blog.

Walmart Kauai is not a superstore but has lots of food choices. For one quick stop on the way from the airport, I'd pick Big Save Market in Lihue, less than 5 minutes from the airport or the Marriott.

I do not like the food at the Beach House, and while it has a beautiful sunset view, it can be too noisy and crowded for my taste.

hopester,
You a Costco member? Costco behind Kukui Grove and allllll sorts of munchies, sammies and prepped foods.

Agree w/ boh on Beach House re: crowds.
I guess there were too many blabbermotuhs on travle websites that told too many people about watching the sunsets from there.
O:) ;)

So much for my editing skills after a long workout of grunting and sweating all over the equiment at the gym. :))

boh, I await your take on MG.
Mrs Kal and I still argue about it along w/ service at Hukilau.
I never had a problem with the service except maybe the first or 2nd visit there.
Mucho mahalos...((Y))

Kal--&quot;I miss the &quot;beer brunch&quot; at The Whaler just up from the Marriott in Lihue&quot;

I miss that too. Anyone know what is going on with Whalers and that whole area--is it being torn down?

Kal Apr 21st, 2008 12:13 PM

Alohaaa...
I think that area will become The Ritz time shares?
AuntieM or Jeff...you out there?

gmac May 7th, 2008 10:57 AM

Just what the area needs, more timshares. I wish the brewery would stay...neat place with great views!

beatofhawaii_com May 7th, 2008 11:56 AM

Not sure what became of Whaler's. Have been wanting to drive out there and check things out, but haven't done so.

Here's the link to the Ritz Carlton: http://www.ritzcarltonclub.com/kauailagoons/

Yeah, we really need more luxury condos!?
