Tips for Dining in Hartford, CT

We are traveling to Hartford, CT for the marathon in October and would like some dining tips.

1st Meal. We will arrive the day before the marathon and would like to find a neat place to have a sandwich and maybe a beer in downtown or on the way from the airport. Any suggestions?

2nd Meal. We will want somewhere to eat the night before the marathon that has good carb filled food that isn't too heavy. Normally a light pasta or a baked potato with a nice salmon is my favorite pre-race meal before a run. However, since we won't be staying out late nor drinking, we typically like to stay in a price range of less than 20 per entree.

3rd Meal. Following a marathon for lunch I always crave a nice salad and my husband will want something more substantial like a burger. Any tips on a good burger joint downtown that also has some decent salads.

4th Meal. This is when we celebrate! Someplace that has great food and a good wine menu but we would like to stay around $20-30 per entree.

We would like to find places to eat that are walking distance from our hotel, Crowne Plaza. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I normally get ideas from tripadvisor but there are so many options for Hartford that I am having problems deciding where to eat.

Not sure whether you're arriving by car, or from which direction, but you might want to check out this site:

www.maxrestaurantgroup.com

They have several restaurants in Hartford & the surrounding vicinity. I can only speak from direct experience about Max's Oyster Bar in West Hartford and Fish in Glastonbury, but they were both very good, so I'm assuming their other locations would be similar in quality.

Thanks. They have several great looking restaurants.

We are flying into Hartford.

Agreed with Judy's recommendations. Would also add City Steam Brewery and Black Eyed Sally's to the list. Another great place would be Trumbull Kitchen.

I'd like to echo the votes for the Max Restaurants as well as City Steam (great beer!). Also - you might want to try Vaughn's and Agave. I also like Bin 228 for drinks and light food. I find the Max Restaurants pricey, but tasty. They do have good happy hour specials though - $2 food when you spend $5 on drinks. Have fun and good luck.

You can use the free star shuttle that takes a mile circuit around downtown up till 11 pm : map available at http://www.enjoyhartford.com/base/co...Transportation For sandwich and brew, try Arch Street Tavern across the street from the Convention Center. It's been popular for over 30 years
