Tipping Taxi Drivers
Ok, I've been traveling so much in Europe I've lost my sense of reality in the US. Going to Las Vegas this next week and going to New York the first week of April. What is the going rate for tipping taxi drivers in the good old US these days???

I believe I just read somewhere it's 15%. Whether that applies to Vegas, or New York, I'm not sure. Big cities and popular destinations, like Vegas, may have their own rules!

Patrick -

This question will certainly get as many answers as there are people in this city. I tip at least $.75, e.g., for a $3.60 fare, I give $4.25, For $3.90, $4.50, for $4.10, $5.00. As I get up to $6.00 etc. I give $1.00. etc. etc.

I would say that it depends on the service you receive, but, frankly, for me, it's not worth the hassle to stand on principle for this one...

Enjoy your visit to NYC...

As the previous poster said, you'll get a variety of answers. I think the first two posts are too low. I give AT LEAST 20%.

PS to last post: ...And never less than $1.

I'm with Howard on this, tip at least 20% and never less than $1. Dona, you need to work on your math if you intend to tip at least 75 cents cause you're not doing it in the examples you give. I always round off to the highest full dollar.

Tip 10-20%, depending on service.
