Tipping for spa services
I looked back through all the "tipping" posts and couldn't find the answer. A friend and I are going to a spa for the day next week and we are each having 2 treatments-a massage for 85.00 and a facial or body wrap for 80.00-90.00. The massage is 1 hr-not sure about the others. I think we will need to tip individually for the services as they will be done by different people. we were thinking 10.00/treatment-? too little?
We would appreciate any advice-Thanks! |
When you pay, just add about 15% of the total. Most places will split up the tips between who gave you the treatments.

I agree with Carrie wholeheartedly since nearly all of the employees giving you treatments are NOT getting anywhere near the amount of the money charged for the treatment. The worst (according to my husband who is a massage therapist at a spa) are those people who use gift certificates (which DO NOT INCLUDE A GRATUITY! )and then rave how great a massage it was and don't tip!

Several places will just provide envelopes. You'll need CASH to put in the envelope and then either write the person's name or some other system. I tip 15 to 20%.

I always do what Carrie does. One spa that I go to for days at a time will even let me wait til the end of the stay and then I just say add 15% to the total.
You may want to call the spa ahead of time and ask what the protocol is there and if they have a preference. |
I asked my friend who is a massage therapist - she said 15-20% is good (of course you could do more, they don't mind - LOL), either cash to the individual people or added to the bill at the end if you are paying with a credit card.
