Tipping at Four Seasons Maui?
 

I have read on many different occassions, that as soon as you arrive at the pool or beach at the Four Seasons Maui, the staff will set up your towels and chairs for you. Just curious if this merits a tip each time? What are everyone's thoughts on this? I want to follow protocol.

I've stayed at a lot of Four Seasons and no one expects a tip for the pool services -- it's part of what you're paying all those $$ for. If someone takes exceptionally good care of you, you could always slip them something on your last day.

I agree with jenskar...we stayed at the Four Seasons Hulalai on the Big Island and didn't feel it necessary to tip for the pool/beach attention. It was a wonderful resort....the best place we've ever been.

I've tippeed a couple of dollars as a courtesy.

I would tip the staff a couple of dollars each time.

The 4S has a blanket no tipping policy which we break. Not for the pool personnel, belldesk, or grounds service people but for maid service. They're the ones who clean up after you twice a day. Check your bills for room service. There's usually a 18% gratuity added. But hey, food delivery to your room is tougher than waiting tables. The way the 4S works, a kind word to an exceptional server's manager can be as good as a tip in the long run.

At the Four Seasons, a lot of times the person who sets up your towels at the pool is the same person who will bring you drinks and food if you order any. When I sign the tab for the food - I leave a tip that encompasses ALL of their services for the day.

I know that when I head to the pool, I usually only bring my room key and pool amenities with me. I've never felt that I needed to tip the pool staff for setting up chairs. I figure it is part of the relaxing resort experience to not have to carry around a wad of cash everywhere I go.

I do tip the valet and bell persons and they have taken my tip. But, I noticed that when I left a tip for maid service, they did not pick it up during the week. I've have a similar experience at other 4S and other higher end resorts in relation to the maid service tip.

I too tip the bellman and valet but not the pool persons except when they are serving food and drinks.
