tinyurl.com OR reduce the URL size
Instead of posting a long url (web site address), which will mess up thread format, please go to tinyurl.com where you can reduce the size of the URL and post a "tiny url" instead. Thanks, from all of us! :)

I'll second that!

BG-
GMTA! ((Y)) I just posted that same suggestion yesterday afternoon! But it is always good to remind folks and we know how quick a thread dropsdown the list. Debi |
Oops, sorry Debi, I missed it. I hope we can keep one of these threads at the top for a few days . . . or a year! :-D
|
Only down side is some folks will not click tinyurl links because they can't see the address/site name.
|
I'll third it!

This is one I hope I can remember to use when the time comes. Thanks, BayouGal! You are always looking out for all of us newbies.

janisj is right...it's nice to know where you're being direct to beforehand.
Also, what is up with the preview showing two sets of URL's? I like to use tinyurl when necessary, but it's hard to tell how long the line will be on Fodor's preview... |
The two URL deal is one of Fodors glitches, I guess, because it's like that in preview whether you use a tiny url or not.
|
Sometimes the url messes up the page...sometimes it doesn't.
For instance Fodor's links are always pretty long yet they never seem to mess up the page format. I wonder why that is? |
The use of tinyurl has more than one weakness. In addition to janisj's excellent point, www.tinyurl.com sometimes goes down. I've experienced this a couple of times. When that happens, all tinyurl links are unavailable.
There's a related issue which isn't very important here, but which matters a lot for information that should remain available for a long time. There's always the chance that www.tinyurl.com will go out of business, in which case all tinyurl links would be lost forever. |
Sorry, but if the poster's name doesn't look familiar or I don't trust the poster, I will never click on a tiny URL being at my home computer, as I may not have the adequate spy (or virus) protection. With the long URL at least I can see the main website and to check if it's worth opening.
|
Thank you Faina, I didn't think about that. From now on, I will never click on a tiny URL
