Tiny Broadway Trip Report American Idiot/Driving Miss Daisy

We took a quick trip into the city for a few hours last night. What a treat!

First stop to the Box Office at American Idiot. Mrlani has wanted to see this for awhile as we are fans of Green Day. When I found that the Billie Joe of Green Day was playing a part, how could I say no? So I picked him up a single ticket on the aisle. He really enjoyed it, and mrlani has seen a LOT of theatre of all genres over the years.

But knowing Mamalani would go graciously but not enjoy it, I took a coupon to the Box Office of Driving Miss Daisy. How couldn't we go? Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones and Boyd Gaines? Talk about a trifecta of the industries finest! I was fortunate to see Julie Harris in the title roll in the late 80's so knew what a treat the script was. It was an honor to witness these actors delivering with ease their finest, with the gentle nuance of a body gesture here and a crack in the voice there as they gracefully age before our eyes. . . those simple little effortless details that define brilliance.

With tickets in hand we headed to an old favorite - we prefer either the 1st floor bar or the 3rd floor. 3rd floor last night. Excellent burger and salad as always. Excellent service as always, a mediocre strip steak for mamalou.

And then after the show a nightcap at the Roosevelt on our way to Grand Central Station. Love stopping here. It is an old tarnished dame with a lovely lobby and again excellent service, and the onion soup going by called but we did not call back!

Well that's it, about 6 hours in Manhattan arriving and leaving the always wonderful Grand Central Station

Sounds like a full and wonderful day - you should try to do it again soon!

Sounded super. I love NY and wish I could afford to live there and it had a warm climate!

Thank you both. It was a wonderful few hours. And on our way out of town with a snow squall chasing us this morning we honked as we drove past Keith Richards place in Weston. I don't think he was home! Likely covorting with his neighbors at Parrot Cay!
