Timeshare Advice....
 

We're thinking about buying a timeshare unit in ?????....most likely Kauai (unless the BI blows our doors off). So far, just based on internet research, we really like the Hanalei Bay resort. I definitely want to be on that end of the island.

Anybody especially happy with units you own or places you've stayed that I should check out? We'll most likely look for a floating week in a 2 bedroom condo....and would be happy with a bi-annual unit.

I find www.tug2.net to be a very good resource. You may know about it already but if mot here it is!

redweek.com is also a good place to check out resell prices and see what the unit rents for.

HBR is in a beautiful location. Agree with above posts--check out the resale web sites and offices. Don't buy "new" as you can get much better prices from assorted resale agents. Even regular real estate agents on Kauai often have info on time-share resales.

I second the advice of "WOW"..go to the Timeshare Users Group BBS at www.tug2.net TODAY and read all about timeshares and how to buy resale. Do NOT buy new. But go to@ 8 a.m. EDT they are changing their website to WWW.TUGBBS.COM.

Add me to the list of those recommending TUGS. Carefully read all the advice about buying a timeshare before you decide if it's right for you. And also get lots of advice about Hawaii and the timeshares available there before you make your final decision.

TUGS is the best resource for this type of info.

Also, Ebay has lots of timeshare resales. You can track the activity of units that meet your criteria. Put them on your "watch list". Once bidding ends, you can see how much they sold for. Do this for a few months, and you'll get a good idea of how much you can expect to pay.

Thanks, I will have to watch that TUG website. It looks like all the old forum info was deleted when they switched to the new format. That's OK becuase we won't be buying anything for at least 6 months.

We have a timeshare in Utah we use for skiing. We'll sell that after we use it one last time and then look for one in Hawaii.

I knew about Redweek.com and 2 bedrooms seem to be selling for about 15K at Hanalei Bay...even resales!!
