Times Square Night Life

What is the night life like in Times Sqaure? Where can my husband and I go that is not to pricey but fun?

No offense, but your post makes those of us who've been in NYC for a while giggle. Times Square isn't what it used to be. But anyway ....

How old are you and what kind of night life are you looking for? A quiet place to have a drink? A late bite? Dancing? Keep in mind that most bars in NYC don't allow dancing as you have to have a "cabaret" license.

If you just want to have a beer, a snack and watch a game, you might try ESPN Zone.

ha. We have never been so I don't know what to expect! I like to dance. My husband does not. ESPN Zone sounds like a place for him. What about a club? We are not big drinkers. But I would just like to experience the night life a little. Maybe I have it picture differently than it really is! We are 22 and 24. Thanks

No club in Manhattan is reasonably priced and in particular Times Square.

As Go said, clubs in Manhattan are not usually "reasonably priced." Cover charges are likely to be $20 and up.

Go to the website GoTravel directed you to and do a search of neighborhood. The neighborhood you want to select is "Hell's Kitchen," which is the west 40's and 50's. I saw one new bar, Valhalla, that sounds good. There used to be a place called "Cafe Iguana" around the corner from the David Letterman show that was okay, too.

The last time I was in ESPN it was loaded with kids, and families mostly for b-day parties. There are definitely better sports bars (if that's what your husband likes) in other areas.

As far as clubs, there are many better nieghborhoods for night life than times square. I'm not a big club person s I can't really help.

I think ESPN Zone is a blast and worth checking out. I've never seen birthday parties in there at night so that's when I would go.

First Times Square is not a center of NYC nightlife - it's mostly theater and restaurants (often chain and awful). I think you need to be clearer what you want.

A sports bar is one thing - but won;t have dancing. (And ESPN Zone is really for kids - in age or mind only.) There are a number of real sports bars if he wants - but not much for you to do.

Most of the clubs - and they won;t be cheap - are downtown. Even if you ignore the "name" clubs and go someplace casuale it won't be really cheap- but at least you'll be able to dance.

Check out Time Out New York and New York magazine for what is trendy - or for what fits your needs.

Indeed, get out of Times Square for nightlife. Check Shecky's & Citysearch for ideas, and feel free to ask specific questions.

Because of your age, I think you would enjoy areas other than Times Square. Check out the Village, Soho, Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. However, nothing is cheap. Besides a cover charge at places, be prepared to pay more for a drink than you would at home. My daughter is 22 and just got back from visiting friends in NYC. I know they went out a couple of times, I'll ask her where they went.

This link will take you to a good list of bars/clubs in the Times Square area with reviews and descriptions.

You may enjoy a drink on the roof of the Gansevoort Hotel in the meatpacking district. It's very trendy with views.
