Times Square Hotel Room with View

We are planning a Labor Day Weekend trip to NYC and want to stay in the Times Square area. (planning to see a few plays). We intended to stay at the Marriott Marquis, but read some frightening things on Tripadvisor about the elevators having gotten worse in the past year. (They were pretty bad when we stayed there a few yrs back). Anyway we wanted to stay there because they have nice views of Times Square. Does anyone know of any other hotels that have nice views in the Times Square area? Is the Westin Times Square a nice place to stay? Are the elevators at the Marquis really that bad? Any other recommendations? Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

We have liked both the Renaissance and the Doubletree Suites.

Thanks Abram, but do you know if these hotels offer views from any of their rooms?

Stayed at the Doubletree Suites.
Great location right in Times Square.
Nice Rooms, all suites.
Fantastic view of Times Square.
I could watch the Jumbotron from my room!

The Westin has views but I think the most dramatic ones are facing west toward the Hudson. I'd go with the Doubletree or the Renaissance for TS views. Both nice hotels.

Ditto with the Renaissance and Doubletree.

Do all the rooms at the Doubletree have a view of Times Square? Or just some of them? Do I have to request one? Or do i just have to hope I get lucky?

I stayed on an upper floor of the Doubletree with a Times Square view. Unfortunately, my view was dominated by the flashing Suntory whiskey sign.

I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode...

You have to request a room with a TS view at the Doubletree and even then its the luck of the draw. I went with a friend who spends approx. 300 nights a year with Hilton hotels and we had requested a room with a TS view...we were stuck with a view of the building next door but could see the lights from TS shining above...maybe that was the "view".
