Time not on our side
 

We are survivors of a high school class of 1944 who get together annually for 3-4 days. Cities suggested for our 60th in September or October include Atlanta and Savannah (plus New Orleans). We like to see and do things keeping in mind that we are in their mid-seventies. Depending upon "conditions," there will be 10-20 of us. Love to hear some informed reactions to this. Thank you.

New Orleans is wonderful in the fall. October is prime time to be here! Another big plus is that it's very flat, which is good for anyone in your group who may have mobility issues and has a little trouble walking. (Atlanta and Savannah aren't too bad in this regard, either!)

You could visit the Aquarium, the national D-Day Museum, NO Museum of Art plus all of the wonderful restaurants and music clubs.

Oscarbee - I have lived in Atlanta and Savannah and would be happy to answer any questions. The weather will be great in both cities but be aware of hurricane season for Savannah. It usually runs from late July to the first week in December. Sept is still hot and there is usually a lot of action in the tropics. October would be better for Savannah. Savannah is much prettier than Atlanta and has more "touristy" things to do. However it is similiar to New Orleans if you are also planning on going there.

If you choose to come to Atlanta make sure you have planned out your transporation. You will need to either rent cars, a bus or ride MARTA. Also MARTA is very limited in where it goes. There is not a lot of historical things to do in Atlanta since it was burned to the ground in the civil war. But there are more cultural things to do in Atlanta than Savannah. You can go to a broadway type show at the Fox Theatre, listen to the Symphony or watch a plan at the Alliance Theatre. There is also Stone Mountain and Underground Atlanta. Of course, shopping is good here too.
