Time for a change

The posts have gotten a little stale around here recently.

As a change, let's have an intensive discussion about the best hotels in Las Vegas, followed shortly thereafter by a raucous thread on the best way to get around New York City.

dwooddon Jun 20th, 2003 01:31 PM

I think the two absolute best ways to get around New York are to either fly over it or to give it a wide berth on surface roads - maybe through Colorado.

B_B...did u see the posts on the Europe board.......
1.Women Wearing Caps
2.Midget Travel to Italy

They've been deleted....too bad...

FainaAgain Jun 20th, 2003 02:25 PM

Oh, the best hotels in Las Vegas must be all under construction for now, right?

AROUND New York city? Hmmmm... is there a circular highway around?

And how come you did not make a nasty comment about SF Union Square?

rasnes5 Jun 20th, 2003 02:45 PM

I dunno-the 'Violent Crime in Petaluma' thread gave me the best laugh of the day-I suppose it's just funny because I live there. Had potential tho'!

I have some questions about New York and need help.

1) If I wear a fanny pack will everyone know I am a tourist?

2) What time does the subway go across the Brooklyn Bridge?

3) My next door neighbor's Aunt's sister's cousin said I will get murdered if I ride the subway. Will I?

4) Will I get mugged in Central Park?

5) Can I get front row half price tickets to Hairspray?

6) I would like to rent a car for my shopping days in Manhattan. Will my Avis $19.00 coupon work?

7) What time should I eat at Tavern on the Green and do they have an early bird special?

8) What will the weather be like when I get there?

FainaAgain Jun 20th, 2003 03:18 PM

GoTravel, you've missed the most important question: what should I wear?

rb_travelerxATyahoo Jun 21st, 2003 10:18 AM

Gee, what to wear with a topic of "time for a change" ... I thought this thread was gonna be about discreet places to replace the Depends! (especially w/ it started by BB!)

GoTravel Jun 21st, 2003 05:16 PM

Faina: I already know what I am going to wear because I am a fashionista. I am wearing bright yellow stirrup pants with my black Easy Spirit walking shoes and a sweatshirt that I decorated with puff paint and glitter.

I agree! I, like most of ya drop in on fodors more than we like to admit and I just aint seen a decent one last few days. Sure we can be helpful when needed but what I need is some reason to stay! Scrolling down, read a few, and away I go. Come on somebody come up with a good one, one we can all respond to!

puddin Jun 21st, 2003 06:04 PM

you can respond to my question re: skinny dipping if you want. As the night goes on that might make for some interesting reading....

islandmom Jun 21st, 2003 11:55 PM

If you are like my mom and best friend discussing how much cash they have left on the subway, people sure look at you!

puddin Jun 22nd, 2003 04:45 AM

islandmom!! My mother does the same thing!!! Except that instead of talking about how much cash she has, she will actually PULL OUT THE HUGE WAD and start counting it in public!!! All the while whispering, "Hundred'n fifty....four hundred'n seventy..." and up and up. This is bad in 2 ways: 1. it's mortifying/embarassing, like she's trying to show off in some way, and 2. she's going to get herself KILLED one of these days!!!!!

Mote Jun 23rd, 2003 12:02 AM

Me too. On a trip to NY on may 2.001, mom once stopped saying she had no enough money, showing it out and counting it in the street, dad and I took a nice picture of the scene. Gorgeous

Back to Vegas. How can there be a "best" hotel when they don't even have coffee makers in the room? That's an oxymoron if ever there was one.

Yes, yes, I know there's room service but in our house making the morning pot of coffee is a sacred tradition not to be tampered with! Not even in Vegas.

If it's humor you'd care to inject, suggest you keep the discussion south of the Berkshires.

E Jun 23rd, 2003 08:51 AM

My Mom used to keep all her bills folded and wadded willy-nilly in her wallet, so when she tried to pull out just a few, out they would ALL tumble, onto the counter, the floor...ay ay ay!
