Tillamook for Cheese and Dinner
My wife is forcing me to go with her to the Tillamook Chees Works in Tillamook, Oregon. To get anything out of it, I've decided to take her to dinner and stay the night. What are the best restaurants in town? Any good B & Bs in town?

I enjoyed stopping at the Tillamook Cheese Factory earlier this year, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for that. However, while you're there, be sure to have some ice cream. The Brown Cow flavor is the best!
I'd suggest that you head to one of the nearby beach towns for the night and just make Tillamook a stop along the way.
I think there's also a big casino and hotel out in that direction. You might want to check that out.

We stopped at the Tillamook Cheese Factory last month on our way from Portland to the coast, quite by accident. It was just about lunch time and we needed a stop. While it was a fun stop, there were lots of tourists and many things to buy. You couldn't see the cheese actually being made, but you got a great view from above of the wrapping process, somehow it reminded me of the famous Lucy and Ethel episode where they were wrapping candy on the assembly line. We had a nice lunch, grilled "cheese" and "cheese"burger, what else, but like the other post, I wouldn't have made a special trip.

There is a great, small gourmet cheese and wine tasting specialty shop just south on the same road and side (west) as the Tillamook Cheese Factory, called the Blue Heron. It is full of tasties - lots of dips you can try with little pretzel sticks. It's easy to find. Don't miss it!

Frank,
Hopefully, you have already endured this adventure and are back home. In the event that this trip is still in your future, I can tell you with some authority that there are no good resturants in Tillamook. The Cheese Factory is fun for about 30 minutes. It is a tourist trap. It's probably fun for kids. The Blue Heron, which someone else mentioned, is a nice place. Great food and gifts. It's right next door to the Cheese Factory and is much calmer and less touristy. There is one very nice resturant in the town of Oceanside which is about ten miles west of Tillamook. Tillamook is not the bay, not the ocean. Oceanside is on the ocean (hence the name) and there is a very good resturant named Rosanna's. If you are going during the holidays, you should call ahead because they could be closed for the season. It is worth the drive and sits right next to a very beautiful, unpopulated beach.
