Tijuana Airport to La Jolla?
Can anyone provide some advice re the best way for 4-6 people to get from the Airport in Tijuana to Torrey Pines, La Jolla? Do we cab it to the border (fare negotiated BEFORE, based on what I've read!) walk across carrying our luggage, and pick up a taxi or car rental on the other side? Is it a hassle trying to walk across after a 10 day stay in Mexico? Are car rentals available close to the border (US side) or should we consider taking the trolley to SD and cab it from there? Any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks! MGC

Why are you at the airport in TJ? Taxi's cannot cross the border, so your only choice is to take a cab to the border crossing, walk across (which is a bit of a distance) and take another cab to Torrey Pines. There are no trolleys that go to area of Torrey Pines, so just bite the bullet and take a cab the entire way from the US border (the driver will be thrilled!), If you are staying at a resort perhaps they can send one of their shuttles to pick you up at the border.
Good luck.
Good luck.

We are spending 10 days sailing in the Sea of Cortez and our husbands want to golf at Torrey Pines before we head back to reality! So rather than taking our previously scheduled LaPaz back to LAX route, we are changing it to Lapaz to TJ, hence the need for transportation from there to La Jolla. I'm sure you're right, the cab driver will love us! Many thanks for your comments...MGC

I live in San Diego and fly in and out of Tijuana frequently. I have made the La Paz - Tijuana trip many times. Kathrine is absolutely wrong. There are many options available to you. The easiest one is to take a shuttle directly from the Tijuana airport to La Jolla. Yes there are shuttles that run from the San Diego area to/from the Tijuana airport. The cost is around $75.00-$80.00 to North County so La Jolla will be about the same. This is the total cost for everybody. Could be higher if there are 6 people because they will need a larger vehicle. They usually use a large car. You will be the only people using the vehicle. You just phone them ahead of time and they will meet your flight at the Tijuana airport.
You can take a cab to either one of the bus terminals in Tijuana and then catch the Greyhound bus that runs to/from San Diego/Tijuana. Cost is about $6.00 /pp. The busses run every hour or so.
Of course you have the options of taking a cab to the border and following what you have already said. However you will likely be tired and not want to have to do much walking and standing in line. I would personally take the private shuttle which will be cheaper in the long run and certainly much more convenient.
Search the web for San Diego and Tijuana. I am away from home right now in the SF Bay area so I don't have the name and phone number of the shuttle handy. You could probably find it on the net or I will see if I can find out for you.
