Tide Pools around Carmel/Big Sur, CA

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for beaches with tide pools in the Carmel area? I missed out on seeing any when I was in the San Diego area a couple of years ago and thought I'd try for my Carmel trip.

Point Lobos has some good tide pools - it is about 3 miles south of Carmel at the very north end of the Big Sur coast.

Asilomar State Beach in Pacific Grove has lots of great tidepools. In Pacific Grove.

For future reference in SD - head out to Cabrillo Point - above Pt. Loma - and then drive down to the old Lighthouse on the beach below. Great tidepools.

And it's a heck of a hike if you want to huff it up and down the hill - or train on a bicycle.

Well - it's really called Pt. Loma - but some refer to it as Cabrillo Point - named after the one who lead the expedition to discover the entrance to San Diego Bay, Juan Cabrillo - a Captain of Portuguese training/descent - who was sailing for Spain.

I visited Pt. Loma, but my schedule didn't allow me to be there at the right time for tide pools. I love San Diego and know I will make it out there again some day.

Point Lobos, South Shore Trail.

Studying tide pools at Point Lobos is a popular activity for amateur enthusiasts and marine biologists alike. Weston Beach, named for the photographer, is the best place to explore the tidal shallows. Docents lead guided tide pool walks; schedules are posted a month in advance.

The closest parking lot to Weston Beach is the Piney Woods parking lot.
