Tickle Pink Inn and Marina Dunes Resort?

Hi,
My husband and I are planning a trip to Monterey area at the end of this month. I have heard wonderful things about Tickle Pink inn. Has anyone on this forum stayed there and I have also heard that we can choose which room number we want. When I called however we were already assigned room #17. I have read in rants and raves that not all rooms are equal and I hope we have been given a good room! Its our anniversary and flying out all the way from the east coast we surely dont want to be disappointed. Also we are staying Marina Dunes for a night. We got the Ocean Front Suite. Has anyone stayed at this resort as well? Thank you, your advice is appreciated!

I am sorry, I just noticed that Tickle Pink Inn is situated in the Carmel Highlands not Monterey as I mentioned. Just didnt want you all to think I didnt know my stuff hehe...Thanks again

It has been several years since I stayed there; but our room overlooked rooftops of other rooms. It was still a great room and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. For future reference, I spoke with the staff as to which room to request the next time (unfortunately, I don't remember now); but the most desirable rooms are booked far in advance. Unless they have significantly changed since my visit, you are still going to enjoy the inn. Be sure and visit Point Lobos. I'm not familiar with Marina Dunes.

Don`t know personally, but a friend just spent a weekend there, and was really happy with it.

Having stayed in both Tickle Pink and Monterey Dunes, I would suggest that you skip Monterey Dunes.

Tickle Pink is charming; Monterey Dunes feels like a Best Western facility (even though it's oceanfront).

Just my 2 cents! 8-)

What's up doc?
(sorry, I just couldn't resist)

Stayed at the TPI last October and just loved it.

To answer your questions about the rooms, we stayed in #31 which was an oceanview, jacuzzi, fireplace suite...
Honestly, it's the best room on the property. It is in a seperate building from the main inn, and the rooms would be #30-35... any of them would be lovely. Splurge if you can, it's worth every penny!

The gals in reception at the TPI would be happy to fax you a copy of the property layout that lists the rooms
if you request it.

I just pulled mine out and it looks like some of the other nice suites in the main building are #4,6,14,16, and for rooms, #3 and 17...

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong anywhere here.

If you'd like to read my trip report w/ more TPI details...

Happy planning & have a wonderful time!

Hello,

Thank you so much for your advice. I am going to definetly try and ask them AGAIN for a copy of the room layout to be faxed over to me. As you said room 17 is one of the "good" rooms so I am happy about that if all else fails and I am stuck with room 17 at least I know its not that bad. Wish I could get a copy of that room layout...Anyways thanks again for the advice. Bye!

Skip Marina Dunes---we had a small room eventhough ocean view nice...carpet looked "worn" , faint cigarette odor even though "non-smoking room etc..
Just my opinion....

Thanks traveller, As for Marina dunes I am regretting staying there now but we already won a pretty good deal on priceline. The tickle pink inn where we are staying for the rest of the monterey trip is too expensive for 4 days! hehe...will keep your advice in mind though.

We stayed at the Marina Dunes Resort in September 2003. Let me say it was the worst hotel experience we have had. We had an ocean front suite. Two suites share a common entryway. The bed is about four steps from the entryway door. So we were awake every time the guests in the next suite exited or entered their suite. The walls are so thin, we heard all of their conversations! We could hear when the people upstairs walked and flushed the toilet. Besides the noise problems, the sliding glass door lock was broken, the cover for the light in the bathroom was missing, and the sink was broken. We called the front desk, they sent someone to fix the sink, but said the maintenance crew left for the day, and they would be back in the morning. They never did! I expressed by displeasure to the front desk and they said the manager would call me. She never did.
Also, another thing to mention is that you ride around in golf carts (cars are left in the main parking lot). We went out to dinner one night and when we came back the fog had rolled in and the cart seats were soaking wet! So I would suggest that if you can go to another place, do so.

Doc,If you can't get the room you want at the Tickle Pink, you might want to look at the Park Hyatt that is right next door.It also has many ocean view rooms to choose from.In addition there are two excellent restaurants on the property with outstanding views of either Pt Lobos,or Yankee Pt.

It's called The Highland's Inn and it is amazing. The formal restaurant is called Pacific's Edge, very elegant. The casual one is called California Market. We like to sit outside on the patio.

You won't be disappointed in the Highland's Inn. Get an oceanview room with a jacuzzi. We were once in under the breakfast package where they delivered champagne and a full cooked-to order breafast to your suite. The rooms also have fireplaces which is nice on a cool evening. ***kim***
