tickets in advance for movin 'out
 

we will arrive in New York next tuesday. I was very happy to get tickets for Sly Fox.Do I have to buy in advance for Movin'out?I am also planning to buy tickets for Jumpers. Is this a good choice?Unfortunately King Lear was all sold out.

What night are you planning to see Movin' Out? If you want to take the chance, discount tickets might be available at TKTS (but, they also might not!). However, you can probably get some at the box office if you go at your first opportunity in the city.

I know that there have been advance discount tickets for Movin Out on broadwaybox.com, but that expires today. I already got my discount ones there for Jumpers, a show I've been anxious to see since I missed it last year in London. It has gotten raves there.
I'm still looking forward to my seeing King Lear the day I arrive, which is closing night for that show. Console yourself with the fact that the show got terrible reviews with the almost singular exception of Ben Brantley from the NY Times.

What have you seen? Among the best are Hairspray, Chicago, Avenue Q, Gypsy and Wonderful Town. And, if you're a Barbara Cook fan, she's performing at Lincoln Center for the next two or three weekends.
(Patrick, don't be so glum about King Lear. It's not that bad. I'd call the other reviews "mixed" rather than "terrible." And having seen it, I'd give it a "mixed" review!)

But mixed reviews? Was there another single rave about the show (not just Christopher Plummer's performance)? If so I missed it out of the dozen or so I read. But as you know, Howard, I certainly don't always agree with the critics.

Not that it really matters (except to us!), but there were a couple other raves and some mixed reviews, along with the pans. I will add that most of the audience (which was predominantly New Yorkers) at the performance we attended definitely liked the show.
Back to the original poster, Movin' Out definitely worth seeing. Since you'll be here for a couple weeks, I guess you can wait until you get here and then to to the box office. Or, if you're lucky you just might find discount coupons available. (Check the Convention & Visitors Bureau on 7th Avenue, between 51st and 52nd Streets.)

Would you recomend Avenue Q?.

Yes.

I loved Avenue Q, but one word of caution. My partner has never seen Sesame Street and has no idea what it is all about. As a result he didn't enjoy Avenue Q as much as I did, since he didn't "get" the "spoof". So I'd suggest you somehow see an episode of Sesame Street if,on the off chance, you don't know what it is.
