We belong to AAAbut don't know if they do that ( if this were not the weekend I would call them to find out) My Mom doesnot really "trust" the internet even though she had me make the reservations through Expedia!!! Kelly, If you are specifically interested in tickets for RENT, their advance sales are handled through Ticketmaster. Their website for RENT is http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/24587/
If you plan to go before August 3 you can get discount tickets by using a special offer available on playbill.com. Just sign up as a member on playbill.com (its free) and check out their members only specials. You'll still be getting your tickets from ticketmaster, but they offer a code to get your discount. BTW you can deal with ticketmaster via phone or internet as you prefer.
Dave
Another option is the TKTS booth located at 47th and Broadway. They offer discount tickets for many shows. Rent is usually available at a 50% discount. Tickets can only be purchased for a performance on that day. The booth opens at 3 PM and there is always a long line. CRedit cards and checks are not accepted.

I agree with both postings above. But wanted to add that I think it is wise to have at leaset one set of tickets purchased before you leave home. Sign up at Playbill and get the discount code for Rent and have your tickets purchased before you leave. TKTS is a great source for a second show. The prices can't be beat, but.. You need to be flexible about what show you see when you buy there and sometimes the seats that are available aren't the best - you may have to sit seperately (close but not next to each other). The line can be very long indeed and I have stood in it for 2 hours plus. I hate to waste the precious little time I have in the city waiting in line (although you meet great people and can learn alot about other places to see from them). I always buy one set of tickets through ticketmaster or ticketron to be assured that we will sit together at the show I most want to see.

As for your Mom and the internet she is right to doubt it at times. The best advice is to use the internet to find deals - buy them and then check with the hotel, airline, etc to make sure they have your reservation confirmed. If they do - you are all set. I use the internet for most every trip I book and I'm just a little older than your Mom. You can teach us old dogs new tricks!

There is a TKTS in front of the American Indian Musuem near Battery Park. It opens at 11:00 a.m. The line is much shorter than at Time Square and you get the tickets before they go on sale at Time Square. They had tickets for Rent and many other shows the entire week I was there.

I recommend Metamorphosis.

FYI:
The downtown TKTS discount ticket booth has been relocated, again. It is now at South Street Seaport

WOW--Thanks for the information!!!
My Mom is really impressed by such quick and in depth replies. She agrees with Sue about investigating "deals" before proceeding with payment.
I told her the 'Fodorites"would come through in our "time of need"
Thanks again..
I'll write a report when we get back...
