ticket changes

Hi there!
I have 2 tickets. 1 RT on American NYC to London and 1 RT from London to Athens on British Airways. Long story, needless to say I am wondering if it is possible to "trade in" 1 of the tickets for hotel stay at a hotel that does package deals with the airline. Any advice and/or past experience would be really helpful. Thanks in advance, Happy Fourth!
Amy

NO way. You should think hard before byuing. If this is a full fare ticket it may be refundable.

Sometimes "nonrefundable" tickets will allow you a credit on that airline for future travel, usually within a year. But never heard of an air for hotel trade.

When is the best time to purchase a ticket or is there not a set rule? For example, I need to attend a wedding late Sept.in the islands. Will I get a better fare, later, or purchase now if I see something reasonable? Or does this require a "crystle" ball? No one really knows. I would think late Sept. would insure a better fare, kids back to school, still hurricane month. Any thoughts? Wait, or buy now?
