Ticket Booth on Broadway

Coming to New York soon for a weekend. We've been lucky in the past getting tickets at 1/2 price at the Tkts booth. What musicals might we be able to see now at the last minute? We are in our early 60's.

You might find what you want at www.broadwaybox.com

Check www.broadwaybox.com or playbill.com for shows with discounts. That will be a pretty good indication of shows trying to fill seats. You can save a lot of time by using the discounts to get your tickets ahead of time on-line rather than stand at the TKS booth. You will also be able to pick your seat.

Of the shows currently listed with discounts on Playbill.com, I've seen 110 in the Shade (wonderful!), Curtains (very funny with excellent talent), The Color Purple (wonderful music and sets, although the cast has changed since I saw it) and The Drowsey Chaperone (very, very funny musical). I would recommend any of the above.

Agree to go to broadwaybox.com - that way you can buy discount tickets in advance. If you want a bigger discount it will at lest give yuo an idea of which shows are offering discounts now- and that you might find at TKTS.

You will be able to get 30 to 50% discount on all shows that are not sold out, such as Grey Gardens, Spamalot, Curtains, Hairspray, Avenue Q, Chorus Line, and so on.

I would recommend checking discount offers on Playbill, BroadwayBox, Theatermania, etc. right now.

The Times Square booth has been temporarily moved to 46th Street by the Marriott Marquis.

Just ahead of your trip, you can go to http://www.tdf.org/TDF_ServicePage.aspx?id=56 and click on "what was available last week".

If you are not fussy about what you see, you should print off the discounts for shows that interest you from broadwaybox and/or the other websites mentioned and bring them to the box office when you arrive in NYC. You will avoid the fairly substantial processing fees that you pay online or over the phone. If you're planning to see more than 1 show, do some that way and try the TKTS booth for others which is still cheaper.

What you really need to do is read up on what's playing and make a list of what you're interested in seeing.

If you like dramas, there are some outstanding ones on right now that are always available at TKTS

Frost/Nixon, Inherit the Wind, Radio Golf. Unfortunately Journey's End is closing on June 10.

What musicals have you liked in the past?

djkbooks--thanks for the TKS link and info. HTTT

Thanks for asking what we have liked. I would say Mama Mia, Les Miz, Evita, Wicked, Phantom, Spamalot, even The Pirate Queen which we saw in Chicago. On more recent visits to New York we have enjoyed Boy from Oz and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. We have tickets for Jersey Boys.

You've seen some great shows (and you have good taste) and you're very lucky to have tix to Jersey Boys! If you don't mind a bit of off color humor, you might enjoy Avenue Q which is usually available at the TKTS booth or on broadwaybox. otherwise, I'd actually suggest you try some off Broadway. What about Altar Boyz or In the Heights (which is scheduled to move to B'way)?

Also check out what people are saying about Xanadu, which opens June 26.

DMG Jun 12th, 2007 06:48 AM

We'll be seeing Jersey Boys when it opens in Chicago this fall.

I believe the TKTS booth in Times Square will accept only cash payment.

djkbooks Jun 12th, 2007 02:06 PM

Cash or travelers checks.
