Thunder Bay, ONTARIO in September

At the risk of incurring the wrath of everyone in Thunder Bay, surely you are not serious about this? What on earth do you expect to do/see when you get there -- you're too early for the hunting season and I bet you weren't even thinking in that direction! Surely your frequent flyer miles can get you somewhere closer to civilization -- like Winnipeg, about an hour and a half west of Thunder Bay by air and in this case at least with some interesting things to take in during the time between the floods and black fly and mosquito season (both of which you should miss if you travel in the time frame you propose.)

ThunderBay is a nice, small northern town. But, it is not the first place I would want to go. Having been there, it is a remote town with not many attractions. Some advice: if you want to visit Ontario, take your frequent flier miles and visit Toronto or Ottawa or if you want the "cottage" setting, go to the Muskokas in northern Ontario. Unless you seriously have a reason for going to Thunder Bay, don't bother.

I have been to Thunder Bay on sailing trips, Possibly you could call ahead at the marina and
maybe you could get a sailing trip. The country is beautiful, If you could rent a car you could drive up to places like Silver Islet,and Rossport, I donot know your time frame. It is God's country. There is some interesting history and people. You could also go down to
Grand Portage by car,take the ferry to Isle Royale,
for a day or two. It depends on what your looking for. Strickly casual,hiking,comfortable,warm clothes,and shoes. Many ,cultural art works to see or purchase,clothes,etc. Have fun. Mary

I,m just curious as to whether you made it to Thunder Bay or not? We live here and have for quite some time and no matter where we go we are always happy to come "home" no matter what our fellow "posters" say about my home town. Mind you if we want to really live it up we go to TO as we call the big city from way up north! All kidding aside there is lots to see and do here.We have live theatre, a symphony, and our base population of ll7,000 hardly could be laughed at. Even Air Canada and Canadian Airlines also Northwest sends commuters airlines in here, what more could we ask for? Marilyn

I passed through Thunder Bay enroute to Winnepeg. We found several interesting points. I recall a spectacular waterfall west of the city. As I recall it was called Kakkabeka Falls. (One of our Canadian friends will have to revise/correct my spelling.) But the water was darkly colored because of a heavy mineral content. The spray the water kicked up was dense. Very interesting and scenic with a good viewing area. <BR>

The city of Thunder Bay sucks! I'm not kidding you, its infested with city cousellors that are so bigotted that they had to pass a English only resolution to keep foreiegners form applying for city jobs. Sorry for the negativity but its the truth :-(
