Thrift store shopping in NYC . Any great places?
I am going to New York City on Thursday morning. Where are the good thrift shops located? Can you name a few as well?

There are a lot and they all specialize in different things. Upper east side (good for upscale designer stuff gently used) has
Designer Resale Corp. (resaleclothing.org) on east 81 st and Encore Designer (encoreresale.com) on Madison & 84 st. and Ina on 73 st. b/w 2nd-3rd. Ina also has downtown locations (inanyc.com) There are also Thrift shops in the area (2nd & 3rd aves 70s) Funkier places are downtown and Brooklyn. Check listings in NY Magazine at newyorkmetro.com |
Hi:
Make sure to make a trip to East 23rd Street. You can start Park Avenue and work your way east towards 2nd Avenue. They have several thrift shops on either side of 23rd including very upscale and the classic Salvation Army. Happy Shopping! |
If you go to west 17th Street you can
hit 3 of em: 17@17 (UJH) 17 West 17 Housing Works 143 West 17 (there are 4 in the city benefiting Aids) and one diagonally across street from Housing works is Angel Street 118 West 17 all take credit cards |
There are a bunch up around 83rd street that I found in Suzy Gershman's Born to Shop in NYC. Happy hunting... I love to thrift shop and can tell you some good places in baltimore and dc. i just got a perfect TSE black cashmere sweater for $8.00. I only wear cashmere now, because i've found it so many times in thrift stores. you have to know what you're looking for, and what's good.
