Thousand Islands - Must Dos

Hi -

I am planning a 3-day late July trip for my husband and me to visit the Thousand Islands. We will be staying at a B&B in Gananoque, but want to see the US side as well. I see several day cruise trips listed lasting from 1 to 5 hours. Any suggestions as to which is the best to do?

Also, my husband will be celebrating his 50th birthday while we are there. Any suggestions for a great restaurant? The price is less important than a fun atmosphere and great food. He isn't really interested in "fru fru" food (a technical term).

Are there any good places to hike?

Overall, what would be your "must do" list for a 3-day trip whether on the US or Canadian side.
Thanks in advance!

Your US dollar will go farther in Canada. As of today the exchange rate is $100USD = $139.50CDN. Last week it was as high as 1.40. As recently as 2013 it was at par.
If you have US $ in your pocket, go to a Canadian bank for your Canadian money.
The bank teller may be a good source on their favorite restaurants.

Thank you! That's exactly what we were thinking so we are staying on the Canadian side. Just curious about the different day cruises and hikes.

Make sure that your cruise stops at Boldt Castle. On the US side of the T.I. Bridge is Alexandria Bay, which is pretty touristy, but fun. Clayton has an antique boat museum.

About half an hour from Alex Bay (and not technically part of the Thousand Islands, as it's on Lake Ontario) is Sacketts Harbor. There is a battlefield from the War of 1812, barracks, and cute restaurants.
