Thousand Islands: Kingston or Gananoque ?

Which is best town to visit Thousand Islands.
I'm in doubt about Kingston or Gananoque.
What to do in each town. Where to stay. Thanks a lot.

I wish I could remember which more recent message the person was responding to, but someone wrote someone about both towns about two weeks after you posted your message. I think the topic included Toronto in the title -- they had some knowledge for you. We stayed overnight in Kingston when the whole town was filled up with a military convention plus some other thing, so we can't really recommend our B & B, but Kingston is a lovely, friendly place.

As a resident of Kingston, I would like to say Kingston is best for cruising the 1000 Islands, but that would not be true. Gananoque has a three hour cruise that is superb and has a stop over at Boldt Castle. This is a must see. Kingston however should be included on a any trip. They are about 20 minutes from each other.

I'd stay in Kingston, but drive to Gananoque to catch a tour boat to see the islands.
I think of Gananoque as worth a few hours walking aroud, plus the boat trip. Kingston has an interesting fort, good stores, a waterfront park good for a while, more restaurants to pick from (I like Chez Piggy, in the heart of downtown) and more to keep you amused and interested.
BAK
