Kal – That would be great if it were a day or two later, but … I’ll wake at 5AM that morning for a 7AM flight; change planes in DFW and LAX -- and arrive in the hell hole 8:35PM – which will be 1:35AM to my miserable body. Then I’ll have to pick up the rental car before the drive up North.

Don’t think I’ll be sociable – or even functional by then . But I appreciate the offer. Had a wonderful time meeting a fellow Fodorite in England earlier this year.

I hope your trip’s not too miserable ;-)

Wow, you can write! Your food descriptions made me drool. I must go back to Hawaii and see more than the tourist spots that I saw when the plane was delayed on route to the US and I stayed there for a couple of days. Inspiring!

Thanks for this wonderful trip report. We've been to Hawaii a few times but never to Kauai -- yet. It's been on my wish list forever but now I think it'll move up thanks to your descriptions and pictures.

'doc...just as well...by that time we are not very social either having just said good bye to our "island ohana" at the Sand Bar and would be in our room trying not to cry and figuring our countdown to return to "our reality".

Let me know if you are staying on the CoCo Coast again so I can leave 2 "Courtesy Wiki Waki Woos" at the Sand Bar for you and the better half..

Kal --
Thanks so much for your very kind offer! Actually, I'm the better half ;-) hehehe.

Actually, my other half won't be going this time. I know it's hard to imagine -- but he honestly doesn't like it there. Other than that, he's mostly normal. His idea of paradise is the rugged coastline and mountains of Ireland or New Zealand. Hates heat and humidity--and to him, all beaches look alike. I know ... it's sick, but we have to make allowances.

Most of my time will be spent writing while looking at that gorgeous view--so I won't mind be alone ... well, not too much

Won't be stopping at the Coconut Coast this time--and FYI, my last drink and my last taste of sugar was 27 years ago when I made the hideous decision to "get healthy." (Yes, life is still worth living.) I'm Wiki Waki enough without any help.

But again, thanks so much for the offer!

Songdoc: I'm thrilled to locate your trip report on Kauai! I remember you from discussions on the Ireland board. Anyway...we are choosing between Kauai or Bosque del Cabo, Costa Rica for January. I have skimmed through your very entertaining and informative report above. I have a suggestion for you and your beloved travelling partner...I note you have very different favorites while traveling...you might both fall in love with the Alps of Switzerland...if you haven't been there yet, I highly recommend you spend a week in the Berner Oberland area of Switzerland...go in early summer (late June/first week in July)) while the wildflowers are blooming in the Alps...you will both be in heaven! Since your travelling partner seems to prefer those mystical heights, I think you'll both fall in love with the Alps when the wildflowers are in bloom! Stay in Murren in the Berner Oberland. Check out my trip report if it helps. Happy travels!

I know this is several months later, but I really enjoyed your trip report. I will use your information to help me plan my first trip to Kauai!

I'm back in paradise and was surprised to see my report resurrected. FYI, It's still GORGEOUS here ;-) Soon it'll be time for a new report. I have a new favorite beach: Lumahai. Also, some fantastic, moderate hiking trails.

Stay tuned ...
