Things to see/do in NC, SC and GA?
 

I'll be travelling down to Wilmington NC in July for a week, then heading to Myrtle Beach, Chalreston SC and Savannah GA. Any advice on the best things to do/see or where to eat would be much appreciated!

I'd skip myrtle- very crowded and touristy. wilmington is nice - kure beach is really relaxing. charleston and savannah are amazing. in charleston, i'd rent a bike from "The Bicycle Shoppe" on Meeting St. or take a horse and carriage tour. If it's a hot week though, maybe an a van tour for the ac. The beaches in both have 80 degree water! Charleston is filled with historical houses. I'd go see a plantation too- Drayton Hall if you're interested in old houses, Magnolia if you'd rather see gardens and alligators. Oh- Poogan's Porch is a great place in Charleston for dinner. If you're there on a Friday you can catch Alive after Five - bands on the waterfront by the aquarium. have fun!

Between Myrtle Beach and Charleston is Brookgreen Gardens--a definate "don't miss".
Charleston is a beautiful city. Make sure to go by the Battery--a lovely area of town with georgous water views.
Make sure to stop at the Visitors Center. The Straw Market is also neat.
Behind the Visitors Center are mini-busses that take you on tours of the city. This is a great way to get an overview of the city.
In Savannah, there is wonderful shopping, great city trolley rides,
a little ways out is Ft. Pulaski--a beautiful fort complete with draw bridge, and there's a Riverboat ride at Factor's Walk that is well worth the price of admission.

For a shopping fix..while in Myrtle go to Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach.

What are your interests; what types of activities do you like? If I knew that, I could perhaps make a few suggestions about what to do in Myrtle Beach.

back2nc is right about it being crowded in July, and parts of MB are touristy--somewhat inevitable given that about 10 million tourists call MB home for a week each year! However, there are some really cool things to do and see here in the area. For example, as tcapp mentioned, Brookgreen Gardens is awesome.

There's a great winery about 30 minutes north of MB, called Silver Coast. Heading north past Little River on Hwy 17, turn left at the light onto Hwy 904, take your second right (I think; there's a sign for the winery), then proceed several miles until you get to the winery's long driveway on your right--go slow, there's a small sign. Good food? There's LOTS of it here. Try researching restaurants & myrtle beach on this forum. If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Live Music: several venues, including the House of Blues at Barefoot Landing. Don't know if you like rock & blues, but we just saw an amazing trio (the 19 year old leader can really play a guitar) at Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery (Broadway at the Beach) this weekend. Beach? It's all good; approx. 60 miles, interrupted only by inlets and creeks occasionally. Myrtle Beach State Park is relatively unspoiled (except it does have a pier). Even better I think is Huntington Beach State Park, just a little further south.

Surprisingly, the AAA guidebook is helpful. Also, do google searches for the tourism boards in each state and request their free travel planners/brochures.
