Things to see and do around Cheyenne, WY

My husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and I will be traveling from Keystone, SD to Denver on June 30th. We would like to break up the trip and spend part of the day and the evening somewhere along the route and are thinking about stopping in Cheyenne. What is there to see and do in or around Cheyenne?

Not a lot.

A family member lived there and it's a great place to raise kids, but not a lot to do. They drove down to Fort Collins for shopping. If you are there in July, Frontier Days are a blast! Otherwise, it's a place to spend the night but not a lot going on.

Here's a list of ideas -

We took a drive to Vedauwoo to see the rock formations. We didn't really get out and explore because we were with an elderly person but just the ride was fun. It looked like a great place for a picnic and hiking.
