Things to do in San Diego

I'm going to spend 3 days in SD, what are some of the attractions in SD. I herd the ZOO is a must, but what else. I plan on being in SD in April. Also, places to stay?
Prices are to be considered.

J.B. Blackwood ( from Michigan )

Depends on what you want to do. I highly recommend taking a surfing lesson. They are fairly cheap and are a true San Diego experience. There is a good listing of schools at www.SanDog.com, a local San Diego surfing web site. Good luck.

Spend half a day walking around Balboa Park where the zoo is located. Don't be intimidated by the park maps. It is surprisingly compact. If you have access to a car, drive out to Point Loma. It's possible you will see whales off the coast. Take the trolley tour to get information about the highlights and history of the city.

Must sees?

Spend a half day walking around Old Town which has great restaurants and touristy shops. For scenery, I 'd recommend a trip to Torrey Pines State park which has several miles of trails over looking the ocean. I concur with the previous poster about Balboa Park.

FWIW, I prefer the Wild Animal park to the zoo.

One of my favorites in San Diego is taking the ferry to Coronado. It is just a 15 minute ride, but the views of the city are spectacular and it is cheap. We also love to walk at Mission Trails Regional Park and Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve.

From my experience in San Diego, there is never enough time to see all there is to do. A great place to go to is Cabrillo park. There are a number of attractions there such as a tide pool(very nice), trails, and a museum overlooking the San Diego Bay. Another place you should visit is La Jolla. This gem has the best beaches, and restaurants...plus some pretty pricy shopping. If you're interested, you can go snorkeling in La Jolla Coves. Thirdly, you can go to Sea World. This is a blast for all ages. They have great shows and rides. In my opinion, this was better than the San Diego Zoo! Enjoy your vacation. If you need any more tips, you can email me. Oh yea, a very nice hotel to stay at is the Sheraton San Diego on Harbour Island!
