Things to do in Denver???
 

Hey there, going out to Denver in mid-June to go see a show at Red Rocks and visit my sister and brother-in-law. Will be out there from a Monday to a Friday. What are some cool things to do in Denver?? I've been to the area before, but always went to Boulder and the mountains. Are there any bars that I have to go check out?? Any cool places to see?? Or events??

Can you give us some idea of how old you are and what you enjoy doing? What concert are you seeing at Red Rocks for example? What area of Denver are you staying in? As a 41 year old, much as it pains me to admit, my favorite Denver bars and restaurants might not be the choice of a 20-something. Am sure you'll get some good replies once we know more about your likes and dislikes.

Thanks, actually I'm 30 years old, like to go out and have a good time. Not much for the nightclub scene, but just curious about some interesting stuff to see in the Denver area. I'm actually going to see the remnants of The Dead at Red Rocks. I'm out there from a Mon. to a Fri. Are there any good sports bars that stand out in Denver, or cool restaurants?? I know we'll head to Boulder once or twice, been there plenty of times. Just figured I'd see what Denver has to offer. How easy is it to get tickets to a Colorado Rockies game???

You might like LoDo's which is within walking distance to Coors Field. Late at night it becomes more of a nightclub but I think they serve food earlier in the day/evening. I think you can easily get rockies tickets, I think King Soopers grocery stores sells them. Every Hundred dollars or so that we spend there, they give us free tickets all the time.

Just across from Coors Field is the Chop House (it's a chain) but the food is pretty good and lots of Hockey players and other sports people have been known to eat there. It's sort of like Mortons but less formal. There are a bunch of restaurants off the 16th street mall which has free buses running up/down it.

For sports bars see ESPN Zone on 16th in LoDo

If you have Sun eve free check out the City Park free concerts. Lots of locals, bring picnic dinner, beverages, blanket. The best view of the city is from the park. http://www.cityparkjazz.org

Just got back today from a weekend trip to Denver. Most of it was spent downtown at my daughter's dance competition but we still found a little time to play:-)

There is so much to do in Denver--I'll list a few 'downtown' oriented things:
--a tour of the state capitol
--tour of the Denver Mint (short but interesting)
--Denver Art Museum (I think it's worth noting that the museum is over 100 years old--that's fairly old for we westerners!)
--Sakura Square--we stumbled upon this on a trip with my son's confirmation class last year. As their sponsors, my husband and I wanted our Methodist kids to see and appreciate other cultures so we made arrangements for a tour/lecture at the downtown Buddhist Temple. For a small donation, they're happy to do this. It was a fascinating hour--the temple is beautiful. Sakura Square is home to Denver's Japanese community and has a tea garden, authentic restaurants and grocery store/deli/import store.
--Confluence Park--where Denver's 1st gold was discovered in 1850's. Has a manmade whitewater kayak chute--don't know if they rent kayaks or not-- plus it has an operating trolley
--Museum of Western Art--has authentic Remington's and Russells
--Molly Brown House--the infamous Molly Brown from Titanic Fame. Great house.
--various walking tours of downtown and LoDo (LoDo is filled with buildings that were once rather famous bordellos--now they house chic restaurants, bars and stores)
--Gotta take a trip/tour of the Brown Palace--THE historic hotel of Denver and the Rocky Mountains. Absolutely gorgeous. If you like that kind of thing (and I do), high tea is served in the lobby most afternoons, complete with harpist.
--tour of the Coors Brewery in Golden. Love the sample room at the end...

I can keep going--what else do you want to do?

maine, too bad you are not staying on through a weekend, lots of fun bike/hike/concert weekend events all through the summer in Colorado. June 19th, for example, is the Starlight Spectacular, a midnight bike ride that starts at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and winds all through the downtown Springs area. Costumes and spectacularly lit bicycles encouraged of course, lol. We've done it twice, it's big time fun:

Heard about a fun music bar downtown called Sing Sing, where dueling pianists bring the audience into their shows. Have never been but sounds like fun:
