Sadly Fenwicks has not gone smoke free which is why we usually go for lunch rather than dinner. The clientel is generally better than that at Lupies (i.e. most are smart enough not to smoke).

Brian - What, exactly, is that supposed to mean ?? You wouldn't be stereotyping would you ?? As stated prior, we nearly always sit in the 'smoking section' of Lupies & rarely see anyone smoke. I have two small children, so I would most likely refrain from eating there if it were, in fact, a smokey atmosphere. I'm not sure what to make of your comment but I would argue that the quality of food @ Lupies is less expensive & maybe even better than Fenwicks, if we were to compare similar menu items.

I think comparing Lupie's to Fenwick's is apples and oranges, guys.
They are both neighborhood places that are fun with food to match what they want to "be" for their "cuisine". Actually, I think Lupie's has even gone to the Lake!!

Well I will just have to try both Lupie and Penguin and see! It has been hard to even get out a lot b/c we are sharing a rental car and not everyone likes to try new things :(. I shall perservere however in the name of trying new restaurants!

Two of my coworkers and I did make it to the Body Worlds exhibit at Discovery Place last week. It was unreal. I had to keep reminding myself that they were real -the plastination process takes much of the "gore" factor that I was afraid of out of it, which is why I think it is a good exhibit for mature children. Maybe 10 and up, depending on your youngster. The section with the embryos/child in the womb is sectioned off, so one can use their own judgement in that regard.

If you go don't be surprised if you start thinking some things about life and death, and what it all means. It was like science, art and religion all in one exhibit! It certainly made me want to take better care of myself.

I didn't get to the places you mentioned in Charleston, hazard. I just started my report for that. I ate at 82 Queen, Poogan's Porch and Magnolia's.

Another place we tried for lunch downtown last week was Monticello's in the Dunhill hotel. It would have been great except that there was a function going on so our meals were very late. It seemed that they rushed to get them out b/c mine and my coworker's salmon were both overcooked. It would have been a great dish, carribean style served with rice and a pineapple salsa, and just the right size portion. Ah well.

A couple of places that I've actually enjoyed out here in "chainland" for lunch have been Lava Bistro-had a great mozzarella, tomato and basil quiche with fresh fruit there today. It is right on a pond with a fountain by the boardwalk, a nice setting. Ninties, also on the boardwalk, has good sandwiches. Also have enjoyed Hickory Tavern a couple of times.

Happy 4th to all!

I believe the 'lake' location of Lupies has already been closed.
