Things to do at night in New York

My husband and I (early 40's) will be meeting a 20 something friend in NYC on a Wed. evening. Can anyone suggest a trendy, but not too loud spot to go for drinks after the theater? Our friends are from Europe and we want to take them some place fun, but I don't like big crowds and so loud you can't talk. Thanks.

Lisa

I would suggest heading to one of the trendier hotel bars---The Library or the Algonquin.

If you want to go all out price-wise, head to Firebird for some post-theater vodka and caviar in a luxe atmosphere.

Thanks, J. I forgot all about the Firebird. I think we'll go there. When did the Algonquin become so popular? What's it like? Thanks again, lisa

The Blue Bar at the Algonquin is terrific. It's small and cozy and quiet. Next door, Gaby's at the Sofitel is excellent, too. It's larger, but still quiet and comfortable. And, there's a grand piano.
