Things to do around Morristown,NJ

We will be coming to Morristown,NJ for a wedding in a few weeks. Will arrive at EWR on Fri AM and will leave from EWR around 8:30 PM on Sunday, willl rent a car for the weekend. Are there any must-see or must do things that we can do on Fri afternoon and Sunday afternoon, in the area. I would prefer not to drive into NYC, we will take a train there on Sat morning. Thanks

Yes, "Washington Slept There." You might also want to have a look at the Morris Museum, http://www.morrismuseum.org/. Or the nearby Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, http://www.stickleymuseum.org/.

If the weather is good, you could visit the largest non-tropical swamp on the East Coast, the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, http://www.fws.gov/northeast/greatswamp/. The Raptor Trust, a locally-run bird sanctuary, adjoins the Swamp, http://theraptortrust.org/.

In nearby Madison, there's the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts, http://www.rosenet.org/metc/.

Madison has a viable downtown, with shops and restaurants worth visiting. If you like shopping for clothing and houseware bargains, you could visit Century 21 on the Morristown Green, http://www.c21stores.com/location_morristown.html.

There is a nice little art museum in Summit, which is about 10 miles away via route 24.

The Arboretum in Summit has several nice garden paths.

You may not realize if you map Morristown on maps.google.com and then use the search nearby function, you can find museums or whatever you want on the map often with linked reviews. Doing that I see a Stickley museum, a train museum and lots of other things.

You can visit the Morris County Tourism Bureau website at www.morristourism.org and consult their calendar for ideas for the time that you will be there.

The Short Hills Mall is very nice and only 15 minutes away. Verona Park - tennis, boating, picnicing - 35 minutes; Go to the Spanish section of Newark for dinner - FUN!; Performing Arts Center in Newark, PAC; There is a theater in Morristown too.

Thanks everyone!
We just returned and had a great time in Morristown. Most of our time was taken up by activities surrounding the wedding, but we managed to squeeze in time to eat at several different Morristown restaurants, walk around the charming village square area and do a little shopping at Century 21. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
