They are flying over my head!!

Just in case anyone will be in Jacksonville Florida this Halloween weekend, the Blue Angels will be doing their Air Show.
We are getting some freebies here, they are practicing, or there is something going on that we don't know about cuz there are lotsa big jets doing fast stuff in the sky :)

If you are going to be in New Orleans this weekend, you can see them there.

Hope you get to see them, it is really impressive and Fun~

GoTravel Oct 20th, 2004 12:51 PM

Scarlett, isn't next weekend Halloween?

If they fly too low, don't forget to duck. :-D

Robespear Oct 20th, 2004 01:00 PM

Forgot to duck for sure, 31st, right? Try a calender

KE1TH Oct 20th, 2004 01:16 PM

I'll be in Jacksonville for the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party on Saturday October 30..... Wonder if the Blue Angels will fly over the stadium? That would be cool.

GoTravel Oct 20th, 2004 01:19 PM

Missed that one. Sorry Scarlett.

Scarlett wrote "this Halloween weekend," not "this weekend".

Duh.

Barbara Oct 20th, 2004 01:32 PM

The Blue Angels were here in San Diego at the biggest air show in the US last weekend. Unfortunately, a civilian stunt pilot was killed on Saturday whe his plane failed to pull out of a dive. On Sunday, the weather was cloudy and the Blue Angels can't do all their routine when there is low cloud cover.

The good thing is it's pouring rain now!!

Judyrem Oct 20th, 2004 02:18 PM

Keith1, are you a "dawg" fan? I always wanted to go to that cocktail party ;-),

Scarlett Oct 20th, 2004 02:56 PM

Keith, you will most likely see them :)

Halloween weekend, both Sat and Sun they will do shows.

They are so cool. Even pup looks up when they go screaming over ~

jor Oct 20th, 2004 03:53 PM

I met the Blue Angels at a large cocktail party at the Dominion Country Club north of San Antonio in the 80's. Big wow. Corporate developement pandering to Government waste to impress real estate developers and investors. The whole affair was about using tax payer money to promote private financial interests.

Budman Oct 20th, 2004 04:22 PM

jor, wasn't it just wonderful!!!! ((b))

April Oct 20th, 2004 05:32 PM

My husband got to fly with one of them once... and I'm jealous.

Scarlett Oct 20th, 2004 07:45 PM

jor,
They say that their mission is to enhance Navy recruiting, and that they represent themselves as international ambassadors of goodwill.
I know they impress me with their flying and I think all those wide-eyed little kids are not thinking about Corporate pandering when they watch these shows.

The Blue Angels did not come to SF this October. What a dissapointment! So I did not go. However there were planes/pilots from Canada. Unfortunatly do not remember details (name of unit, what part of Canada etc.) but relatives said they were great. So wished I had been there. But not the same as the Blue Angels.

Barbara,
The civilian stunt pilot that was killed
in San Diego was from our Vacaville/Fairfield area. The NutTree Airport pilots etc., and community were devasted. Sad story. A young man that was interested in flying all his life.
I felt so bad for his family but in their interview it appeared they were holding on to the joy that their son lived his life living his passion. But still a tragic story.

Have seen them twice -- a thrill, indeed. And the IMAX movie with them is quite an experience.

joan Oct 21st, 2004 05:00 AM

I've seen them too at the MacDill Air Show in Tampa. Awesome. I am happy to have them by my side as an American! **==

dan_woodlief Oct 21st, 2004 06:16 AM

At first I thought this was another baseball post, and you were quoting the Yankee right fielder.

GoTravel Oct 21st, 2004 06:44 AM

We were coming back from a South Carolina football game one weekend and stopped at a Quick-E-Mart off Hwy 378.

I was in the ladies room and the entire building started shaking and rumbling. I thought we were being attacked.

I go running screaming out of the store as people are looking at me like I'm insane.

Turns out we were across the street from the end of the runway at Shaw Air Force Base and the Blue Angels were taking off.

I've never heard anything so loud or seen anything as thrilling in my life.

dan_woodlief Oct 21st, 2004 07:14 AM

It does sound great Scarlett. I would love to have them zooming by my house. I would get lots of photo ops. I got to see the Thunderbirds once, and it was a major thrill.

OO Oct 21st, 2004 07:34 AM

GoTravel...that's funny!

I've seen them in an air show in Dallas. It's one of those rare intense noises that actually seems to your diaphragm vibrate (anatomically speaking I mean!! Yikes lol)

buckeyemom Oct 21st, 2004 08:05 AM

The Cleveland Air Show is at Burke Lakefront Airport. A couple of years ago, we had the boat anchored out and were watching the show. The Blue Angels came screaming in right over tops of us. I thought my husband was going to jump into the water! It was a site to see. And you are right about the noise OO, it is something else.

Fodorite018 Oct 21st, 2004 08:38 AM

Scarlett--The first time I saw the Blue Angels was at Jax:) I have no idea how many times I have seen them, but they still are amazing every time!

razzledazzle Oct 21st, 2004 11:48 AM

Oh, I have a story...

It was a sunny day in mid October
1988. I was walking around Pacific Heights in San Francisco on my
way to view an apartment for rent.
It was a gorgeous warm day, blue skies and the view of the bay with it's
shimmering water gave me~butterflies~
"I am so happy to be moving
to San Francisco" I thought.

I was a bit early for my meeting
and decided to stop a few minutes
in a little park. On my way up
the hill from Union St.I had
passed an Embassy or two-
the Russian one was of note-
a large, beautiful mansion
like most of the them.

Here I was,
lucky me!!!!!!!
pondering my good fortune
and enjoying my lovely surroundings when I heard
a rumble and a vibration ("earthquake??? oh-my-god!!!")
next came a screaming whine,
no it was probably
4 or 5 screaming whines,
dark objects
moving in fast over my head,
("where's a tree I'll be safe under there!")

I am quite certain my heart sought
shelter in my throat during my sprint for safety.("My god!!!!they're attacking the Russians!!!!")

SSSSCCCCCCRRRRRREEEEEAAAAAAMMMMM
WWWWWHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNEEEE
ZZZZZZZZOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM
they all "rollout" over my head
and make a large turnaround back
toward the Bay.

My terror stricken eyes follow them and
something large is in the water..a aircraft carrier is entering the Bay under the Golden Gate Bridge....panic,
more panic,
heart is going to stop...("It's not
the Russian embassy they're after
it's... it's....THE CARRIER"!!!)

I am here to tell you that
sweat can be cold.

Now's a good time for a passing jogger
to stop to explain about Fleet week and the Blue Angels show on the upcoming weekend.

Lucky me.

I was in San Francisco several years back on the same weekend as the Blue Angels show. We watched the show from the roof of a 4 story parking garage in the Marina District, and, because of the slope of the city as it comes up from the Bay, we were at some points less then 100 feet below one of the planes.

A few days earlier, as they were practicing, you could hear the roar of the engines in most parts of the city.

Scarlett Oct 21st, 2004 12:53 PM

I can't wait !

LoveItaly Oct 21st, 2004 02:22 PM

Razzle, your story is toooo funny!!
But with the noise their planes make I can sure understand. Had one my grandsons with me one time, he was about four. I had thought he understood what we were going to see. Guess not.
He got hysterical, really really hysterical. I felt so bad.

A couple of years later he told me that he had thought we were going to see "Blue Angels" like in "Angeles that were blue". Did not understand they were planes. He said for quite awhile he thought "I don't think I ever want to go to heaven if that is what the angels there are like". We still laugh about it.

Sooo, can visualize your panic. What a sight that must of been.l

Scarlett Oct 28th, 2004 11:58 AM

They're heeere!
All day they have been flying over the house and river, doing spins, flying over my house sideways :O and then in formation..it is deafening and so thrilling, I am like a little kid, every time I hear that screaming sound, the Pup and I run outside to watch. They are so low, we can practically see the pilots.
Tomorrow Saturday and Sunday are the shows.
If you are near Jacksonville, do try to see them.
They are SO COOOL :D

LoveItaly Oct 28th, 2004 12:21 PM

Scarlett, we know where you will be all weekend! Have a ball. Lucky you.

GoTravel Oct 28th, 2004 12:24 PM

I saw a couple of them fly over us a couple of days ago and was thinking of you in JAX Miz Scarlett!

KE1TH Nov 1st, 2004 06:08 AM

Well, I spent several hours pre-game loitering about outside Alltel Stadium and never once saw a Blue Angel.... granted I saw lots of blue, but no angels :)

Scarlett Nov 1st, 2004 06:48 AM

Keith, that is terrible!
We had people over to our house on Saturday, they flew right over the house and up closer to the River.
Yesterday, we ended up going to the Show itself at the Base.
While it was amazing and fun to be there for a while, I found that seeing those huge jets, flying 400 mph , in formation, right over my house, much more amazing :D
I was sure that during the game they would do a fly over..so sorry you missed them~
BTW- they fly , all 6 together, in formation, with their wings 18 inches apart :O
