Theatre in Chicago in September

Hello!

I will be in Chicago in the middle of September for a week. I am staying at the Westin on North Michigan Avenue. What good shows are there right now that are not a great distance from the hotel. Can I get 1/2 price tickets tot these shows?

Also, what shuttle service can I take to the hotel?

www.hottix.org
has the list of same-day, half-price tickets available, but they sometimes sell out quickly. Midweek is a better bet than the weekend, and if you truly want to see a play, call and pay up for the ticket rather than wait and be disappointed. Many popular shows never make it to Hottix.

Personally, I recommend Over the Tavern (all ages), Bombitty of Errors (teen to adult, but not senior citizens, and may be closing this weekend) and the Hot Karl at ComedySportz (adults). Famous Door, Noble Fool, and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre have consistently good offerings. See the Reader guide (accessible through the hottix.org link) for more reviews.
You can always go the Chicago Tribune website and check out the various theatres. Check what's playing at the Schubert. You can check at the airport for hotel service but it's often easier to take a taxi. FYI, taxi's must be "reserved" at O'Hare. The aren't allowed to just circle and then pick up passengers. Good lulck

I see Second City tickets occasionally at Hottix, this weekend there were tickets for the late show on Friday night for Second City ETC, not the main stage.

Comedy Sportz is fun improv and there are usually tickets for that at Hottix.

Blue Man Group tickets can sometimes be found at Hottix but they may only give Hottix certain seats so if you want a good view it might be better to buy in advance.

I don't think any of the larger theatres will have shows while you are here, I think Movin' Out and Aida will be closed by then.

You can check theatre listings at www.chireader.com, www.metromix.com or www.centerstage.net.

Could someone please explain what is meant by "reserving a cab" at O'Hare?

patg Jul 5th, 2003 07:23 PM

You don't reserve a cab. You stand in a cab line and wait til the starter deigns to allow you to approach the cab.

Maybe they were thinking of cabs to the suburbs, which can be called from the airport and then a specific cab picks you up at the center median. This is called a "prearranged ride," but to go into Chicago you just get in the cab line.

Not sure about theater tickets, but if you would like some good, dining deals, you can get 1/2 price dining certificates at www.chicagoeatsout.com.
Good Luck!
