The waterways around Fort Lauderdale..

We are avid boaters in New England and plan on renting a small boat for a half day or day(if I win Powerball tonite) while in Fort Lauderdale. Looking for ideas on what areas would be fun to poke around in by boat....
Thanks in advance!

Forget it, I'm winning powerball this evening.

All of FLL is cool by boat because you'll get to see literally thousands of 100+ foot yachts. It is amazing to see so much money.

My favorite place to boat is the Palm Beach area but you'll find a lot of great places.

Thanks, anyone else?
How about any small islands around?

Well, I did win $3.00 on my Powerball ticket - not enough to afford the yacht!
Still looking for other ideas in the area with a small boat - would love to see some good wildlife areas...
anyone else with ideas?

Ft.Lauderdale is too populated for you to see any uninhabited islands. You'll have to go north which may take up a lot of time in a small boat.

If you can, I highly suggest skipping Ft.Lauderdale and heading up to Palm Beach. Lake Worth is fantastic for day boating.

You can snorkel Peanut Island, watch the Manatees at the power plant, and see a lot of other cool stuff.

The only boating I've done in Ft.Lauderdale involved the waterway and the heavily trafficed residential areas.
