The "T" in Brookline
I'm attending a conference based at the Holiday Inn in Brookline (1200 Beacon Street). Would really like to leave the car at home, take Amtrak to Boston and use the "T" to get around. Is there a line that runs near that hotel?

You're in luck. It stops right there!

Thanks HowardR. I can probably figure this out once I get to South Station, but which line should I look for? Although I attended college in Boston more years ago than I care to admit, memory fails.

Since you're coming into South Station, you'll want to take the Red Line to Park Street, where you'll switch to the Green Line. Be sure you get on the "C" branch of the Green Line heading toward Cleveland Circle. www.mbta.com
Have fun!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Brookline, and the T stop is literally right in front of the hotel. It would be hard to get closer. It's a good line into the city. Decent hotel, too, especially for the price I paid.

Careful though, not all green line trains go all the way to Brookline from every station late at night. Locals must know this, but we waited for 1/2 hour at one of the east-most stations looking for the right train (there are several branches of the green T line). We finally hopped on a different green line train to get downtown then switched to ours.

Brookline is a nice neighborhood, too. Cool restaurants and shops and such up at Coolidge Corner, an easy walk from the hotel.

Andrew
Thanks, again, everyone. I used to live near Coolidge Corner while at BU, so this whole trip is going to be a walk down memory lane.

Now I'm wondering it that Holiday Inn used to be a Howard Johnson's which I vaguely remember from the 70's.

BTW, I don't know what the conference people are paying for the rooms, but I added an extra night for $60 through Priceline. I posted all the infor on biddingfortravel.com

Ken, it wasn't always a Holiday Inn, but I forget what its former name was (when I was at BU!), but it wasn't a Howard Johnson's. Are you thinking of the one on Commonwealth Ave. near BU?
|
Ken,

It used to be the 1200 Beacon, an independent hotel.

It was originally unenclosed with open open walkways.

The property is at least 45 years old.

You might consider exiting the Amtrak when it stops at Back Bay, then use the Orange Line to get to the GreenLine, or even walk ... It's about 2 blocks to the Copley T Station from Back Bay. Check the maps.

However, on return, board Amtrak at South Station, where you'll have a better seating selection.
