The Strip in LAS VEGAS

How long is the "Strip" in Las Vegas and can I walk the distance?

I'm not really sure how long the Strip is, but if you are quite athletic, I suppose you can walk it. The hotels always appear to be closer than they really are, and it's very deceiving. There are several trams and people movers (moving sidewalks) going from hotel to hotel, so it's not too difficult to get most of the way down the strip although these trams usually make you walk through the casinos which is why they have them. I can't tell if you are wanting to walk or are afraid you will have to. I'm 55 and not athletic at all, and I enjoy walking part of the strip after the sun goes down, but I don't think one would want to do the entire thing (it's maybe a couple of miles with lots of traffic).

Depends on what time of year
We usually go in December, which can be COLD...especially at night.
We have walked the strip...from Luxor to Circus Circus...took 6 hours...would stop at each casino for about 5 or 10 min just to "gawk".
Whatever you do...bring good walkin' shoes

It is about 4 miles from one end of the strip to the other if you define the strip as being from Sahara Ave (Circus Circus, Sahara hotels) to the Mandalay Bay Hotel (just south of Tropicana Ave).

A word of warning: I just got back from my first trip to Las Vegas (actually the end of August). I live on the Georgia coast, am in better-than-average physical condition, drink lots of water -- and got severely dehydrated and quite ill in Las Vegas. Now I know what they mean about "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" -- and I guess my body wasn't dealing well with dry heat. We didn't walk terribly far, probably not more than a mile or two, but it really had an impact on me. So be careful hiking the strip, drink lots of water instead of (or in addition to!) whatever your other choice of beverage might be, and take time to cool off periodically. Maybe everyone else knows this, but it was a real shock to me!

I agree with the above poster about the lack of humidity in the air. I had to stop and buy chapstick it was so bad. Anyway, back to the real question. I went to LV for the first time last year in February (gorgeous weather). We stayed at NY NY. Took a cab to the Stratosphere early on Saturday (8am), had breakfast there, visited the casino, and proceeded to walk the distance back to our hotel. We stopped in several casinos and hotels to check them out (not really much at the Stratosphere end, by the way), watched the pirate battle at Treasure Island, the fountains at Bellagio, etc., etc., etc. We even did the trek all the way to the Rio (watch out if you walk, you'll be walking on a highway). We didn't get back to NYNY until about 11:00 p.m. PHEW! It's not the mileage really, it's all the walking you do inside the casinos and hotels (they're HUGE!) Perhaps you should start somewhere by Treasure Island and make your way down to Mandalay Bay, etc.

From the north hotels (Sahara) to Mandalay Bay is 3.8 miles.
You can walk it in about an hour if you don't stop, but depends on amount of traffic (pedestrian and car).
I've walked from Luxor (far south) to the Convention Center (next to LV Hilton, far north and off the strip) twice, and it took about 70 minutes, but I walk fast and was not walking on the busy strip sidewalks.
It is very dry. If you live in a humid area, it may bother you.
