The snow has stopped falling in Buffalo - finally!!!!
If you have friends or family stuck in the Buffalo/Niagara airport, they should hopefully be going home soon. I don't know when the airport will re-open, but the snow has stopped and the sky is clear. I'm sure once the runways are cleared off, the planes will be taking off.
My 10 year old son is in his glory, but I'm climbing the walls!!! Oh well, that's what I get for living here. Hope all your loved ones who are stuck here make it home safely. Happy New Year!

I'm the one who lives an hour south of Buffalo who yesterday had green grass and sunshine. Boy, what a difference a day makes. We are getting blasted tonight. But it's all part of being a western new yorker. Cheryl, glad you are getting a break, for us it's going to be a long night!

To Pat - It still has not snowed in Rochester. I had to go to Scotia NY this past weekend and it started to snow from Exit 45 in Rochester all the way to Scotia, but it did not hit Rochester at all. There has to be a dome over the whole city. Today we got an inch today. Making a total of maybe 12 inches. Syracuse has been hit pretty hard too. I feel bad for you guys. Drive safe.

Cheryl: That seems to be the direction Chicago has been going in, too. However, we haven't had any snow to speak of, yet.
Did anyone watch the History Channel last night? They had a show about the Buffalo Blizzard of 1977 - unbelievable! The snow was up to the second story on houses; completely buried cars. Now that was a little too much, even for me.
My husband grew up in Middleport, N.Y. - about 40 miles from Buffalo, so I have heard all the snow stories from him.

TO: IWANTSNOW (a/k/a Chicago)...I remember the blizzard of '77 like it was yesterday (OK, I was in high school). There hasn't been a storm since that compares. It is something I will never forget. You know, the Weather Channel doesn't always paint an exact picture of what's going in (at least here). A FEW areas in and around Buffalo did get 7 feet of snow last month; however, the majority of the city and metro area received between 2 and 3 feet. Please understand, to anyone who doesn't live here, 2-3 feet of snow sounds like a lot. To us, it's a major inconvenience. I hope you get some snow soon. Winter isn't over yet. As a matter of fact, my 10 yr. old is complaining that we haven't been sledding yet. It's only January...who knows!

I'm not sure what it's like in other parts of the country but in Buffalo a major snowstorm actually brings people out of their houses, onto the streets. We have brand new next door neighbors who hadn't met many people on the street until the December storm, and then they met most everyone, as we were all walking around, shoveling each other out, etc. We know how to handle it here in Buffalo. Today, I'm just beginning to see the grass on my front yard.
