The San Diego Zoo or the WIld Animal Park
I have two children, 6 and 9. Which would they enjoy more, The San Diego Zoo or the Wild Animal Park in San Diego or are they both fabulous and should not be missed?

I vote for the Wild Animal Park, the Zoo was very crowded, and smelly when I was there. We were able to hand feed the Giraffs at the Wild Animal Park. If you reserve ahead I believe you can get a special safari (truck ride) at the W.A.P.

One of the big attractions of the WAP is the tram ride--which at 45 minutes in length is something your kids probably wouldn't enjoy (also it can be really difficult to see the animals). Also, are you going soon? The weather in Escondido (where the WAP is located) could reach 100 degrees in the months of August and September. I haven't been in a while, but I think you can purchase a ticket that will allow you to do both at a discounted price--that way you could spend the bulk of your time at the Zoo and then check out the WAP another day without feeling like you had to spend all day there to get your money's worth.

They are both fabulous, but younger kids generally enjoy the Zoo more. There's more to see and they can get closer. When are you coming? They just announced that the giant panda is pregnant with twins. They are due any time now, but will not be out where they can be seen for several months. I'm sure there will be a "panda cam" like the last time.

In either place, before you buy your tickets, consider becoming a member of the SD Zoological Society. It may be close to the same price as buying tickets for the whole family, will entitle you to some discounts, might even be tax deductable, and will allow revisits for the next 12 months. Plus you get a neat Zoo Magazine every month or two.

They're both good, but for younger kids I recommend the zoo. Whether you do one or both, please check out sandiegozoo.org for more info. You can buy slightly discounted tickets at a-zsandiegoattractions.com.
