The Pump Room - Chicago ?

Is anyone familiar with the Pump Room in Chicago? I know it has a great history associated with it but is it still worth having dinner there?

It still has a very good reputation. I ate there about 5 years ago on business and had a very good filet mignon -- but I haven't been back on more recent trips to Chicago because the atmosphere wasn't really me. I prefer more relaxed, laid-back, informal settings (Carson's Rib House and Chicago's legendary deep dish pizzas are more my scene). But yes, the Pump Room has a great tradition and may merit a visit for that alone.

The Pump Room has just had a major renovation and is gorgeous. I believe they also have a new chef and have gotten good reviews. It's not cheap, but I think it's worth a visit.

Frank,
The Pump Room is indeed a gorgeous, historied and expensive place. You'll enjoy the atmosphere and the food. But I think you can have an even better meal for around the same money (and better service) at Charlie Trotter's.

You might try "Everest", the food is spectacular and the views unsurpassed. I believe it's even better than Trotters, either way, I think you'd like these two better than the Pump Room. It's nice but there are so many better places.
