The Preserve Resort, Gatlinburg area
Hi,
has anybody stayed at this resort? Any comments -good/bad? How far from Gatlinburg. I want to be close enough for a 20-30 minute drive, but not too close to the touristy tacky stuff! Also several different cabins - dogwood, cedar groves etc. All look very similar - any better than the other?
Thanks!

I am in the same boat you are. My wife and I live in Michigan and plan on coming down to the area in August. We are looking at the Patriot Getaway cabins. They are expensive and I posted a msg asking if anyone has anything good or bad to say about them before we make reservations. Thanks. John in Michigan.3 feet of snow and -10 degrees.

Hi John. I haven't stayed in Patriot Getaway cabins, but I have rented a lot of cabins in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. I did a google search and I found this one post on TA http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...Tennessee.html about those particular cabins.
We have never been disappointed w/the cabins that we rented. There is a lot of competition so the web sites provide a lot of pictures (one pic is worth a 1,000 words) and very good descriptions.
I've heard very few complaints. I've heard the complaint of cabins being very close to one another and that the web site pics were misleading in that way. Another complaint I've heard is that construction is going on nearby. I suppose you could call and ask about those things.
Like I said, we've been very happy w/every cabin we've rented, but we do rent the premium or luxury cabins. We find the agency ratings to be accurate.
Brr.....

There's also a great place called Hidden Mountain Resorts. Not sure of their email address.
We are going to Gatlinburg next weekend and if anyone would like for me to pick up some of the lodging guides and other stuff just shoot me a quick email and I will be happy to send to you.

Hi, what kind of cabin would you like to rent? Do you want a 20-30 minute drive from gatlinburg/pforge (like gillybrit) or do you prefer to be close in? How many bdrms/baths? If you let us know, perhaps we can come up w/specific cabins suggestions.

Hello. We will be coming down for our 17th wedding anniversay and will be visiting relatives in Crossville TN.We do not have any kids. Just was not in the cards for us. Not sure if it would be better to stay on the North end of the area near the highways or South end. We are driving a Ford mini van so the driveway can not be to step. Just looking for a 1 bedroom close to all the attractions and a mountain view. But far enough away where you feel like your in the mountains. Also a pool table would be nice. Thanks for all your information.
Thanks. John in Michigan. Up to 16 degrees now.

Congratulations on 17 years! (Sorry I was overly inquisitive.) Two agencies that we like and have rented from are http://www.sugarmaplecabins.com/index.asp and http://www.majesticmountainvacations.com/. I can't recommend any specific cabins since we haven't yet had the opportunity for an anniversary trip, although perhaps after your trip, you can offer us a recommendation.
If you'd like to be near, but not in, the thick of things, you could stay in Wears Valley, about 15 minutes drive west of Pigeon Forge, or you could look at Cobbly Nob which is about 15 minutes drive north of Gatlinburg. Cobbly Nob has a pool, which you may appreciate in August.
I wouldn't worry on account of your van. I've not seen anything too steep. You may have to drive slowly.
I think if you haven't seen anything negative about Patriot Getaways and you really like the look and location of one of their cabins, you ought to go for it. It does cost a lot more to have a nice mountain view, but I think it's worth it.
