The perfect cottage So. California
 

I'm looking to rent a So. California cottage for a week - with a great view of mountains or ocean, prefering something at least close to ocean, privacy, small town charm, and at least "some" activity (retaurants, grocer) nearby. Price is not really an issue. I've stayed at similar places in other states but I'm having little luck in finding something in So. Calif.

I'm not sure what cities you've tried, but how about San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, or Santa Barbara?

If price is really not an issue, try renting a house on Balboa Island, Newport Beach. Can't give you a web address, but there are many real estate office (trust me) that handle vacation rentals there.<BR><BR>Full of charm, & it's the only "small town" atmosphere I know of in Orange County. Plenty to do there & nearby.
