The Noguchi Museum
 

We will be spending the weekend in NYC and I was interested in visiting the Noguchi Museum. What is the best way to get there? How long should we expect to stay there? Is there anything else to do nearby? Is it worth going so far out of our way?

I've never been so can't comment on how worthwhile it is. I would imagine quite peaceful. It's described as a very "zen" place. On a websearch I found there is a shuttle bus service that leaves from 70 st & Park Ave. (in front of the Asia Society) on weekends starting at 12:30. Here's the info

Subway: N to Broadway. Walk west on Broadway toward Manhattan until Broadway ends at Vernon Blvd.; turn left on Vernon and go 2 blocks

I didn't know there was a museum for his works. Back in the early 60s I had his lamps in my apartment, simple and inexpensive at that time

We went to the museum a few months ago. We really liked it - it has an outdoor garden, several display rooms and special exhibit space. It's probably even better in warmer weather (some pieces were closed up for the winter).

One thing I found a bit frustrating was the lack of signage. This was done on purpose according to Noguchi's wishes...to approach the art by one's self.
However, there is a book in the museum if you want to peek at names of pieces and whatnot as they are rather abstract.

It is quite a trek from the closest subway stop. Check their website - they sometimes offer a shuttle from the subway stop. Having a car would be ideal to get there.

There is not much around there - Costco, hehe. It is close by to Socrates Sculpture Park - a place where artists can show their large pieces, sometimes in progress:
