The National or Abby or??? Any suggestions?

Not sure where to stay. Would like to be on beach. Smaller hotel (50 or so rooms) Loved the looks of Park Central but it's not available. Considering the National or Abby. Any other suggestions or comments on either of those two? Certainly want to be close to all the fun, entertainment, hot spots. Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Also, anyone know if a property may become suddenly "available" like Park Central? Heard South Beach is great. Any not to miss spots?

are you looking to stay mostly at or near South Beach or is this a trip to Miami? What kind of things do you like to do? There's a lot of things to see and do in Miami. How long will you be here, will you have a car? Miami has a terrible public transportation system so without a car you can't venture too far.

We are considering South Beach with no car. Sounds ridiculous but we can't decide where to go for 3-5 days. Like no ideas. Looking for something fun. July. Heard Miami is just too hot in July. South Beach I guess would be just Beach, people watching, some nightlife?

Babette:
Of the 2 you mentioned, The National is a much nicer hotel.
Regarding a car, it really depneds on how long and what you like to do on vacation. If you are only spending 3 nights, and enjoy just relaxing on the beach or poolside, then a car is not necessary. BUT, if you are going to spend 5 days, and want to do more than just lay on the beach, then you should rent a car. As an alternative, you cn rent a car for a couple of days, instead of keeping it the whole time you are there.(South Beach parking is expensive; if you don't like to pay high parking fees, there aremunicipal parking garages scattered all around South Beach, only about $9-12/day, but you have to go early, since they fill up fast. Additionally, car rental rates in Miami are among the lowest in the country)
With a car, you can checkout sights such as Viscaya Mansion, Coconut Grove,
Coral Gables, Bar Harbor, Aventura.
Must sees in the South Beach area are the Wolfsonian Museum, and of course, the Lincoln Rd Pedestrian Mall. Hotel lobby siteseeing is also fun to do.
